Started on the suicide doors!
I got my hands on some scrap rear doors that i was able to save the hinges from. For the B-post hinge I had a talented panel beater fold them up, he had to do them in two half lengths as they where distorting at full length in his bender, it took him a whole day, they turned out great!
I have already moved the door handle to the front of the door and am working on getting the the handles and latching mechanisms to all work in proximity to each other. I am using the original handles with an after market bear claw latch... I think i may be over complicating it... But the challenge is nice!
I hope to have one more day at the end of the week to at least fit the other door.

More work on the doors, playing with the locking mech...
I have spent around 4 days figuring this all out an am really pleased with what I have come up with! It's my first time using a swaging tool and have tried 4 different cover plates, but this one is the best imo.
I am using the original front lock mechanism, shaved down, a modern bear claw lock and the original sliding lever on the inside. Tell me what you think! Be nice Jozeph...
Cheers

Thanks 2cvman:)
I'm starting to wonder if it wouldn't have been a better idea to have maintained the raised level right down from the sliding handle to the locking mechanism and kept a cleaner line... the reason i did it like this was that the area the lock was removed from was on the lower height and i assumed it would not have had the length in the spindle to sit higher... I may have been wrong...

cheers Bart!
It is a good point that you bring up, time and patience, I would have never thought these latches would have taken so long! But I am really enjoying the time I spend on them, surrounded by talented people in an oldschool chop-shop
I spent another day... Got the sliding handle to work with the latch using steel wire rope, ran through a pulley located where the side mirror used to be. It works great!
Pics will come later.

Looks awesome, very similar to how I'm going with mine, minus the crazy lows. I was reading and got to the last page, then realised who you were! I'm Pete off I2F. _________________ Owls bring me food, in my home. |

Thanks Pete, others should check out Pete's thread on I2F for a factory look suicide convert.
Meanwhile i've had some time free over Xmas and NY's for some sandblasting and painting! and i got carried away :)
The colour matched my roof on the chart... I swear it did
Got the spring pots back together and ordered all the needed seals bearings and odds and ends from the 2cViking in France. 2nd Xmas incoming!!

Hi legends,
I can't get the idea of split safari windows on my 2cv...
The Angle of the windows will match the triangle after the hinge on the bonnet, the vent flap will be removed and the wipers will remain on the bottom with a release lever...
Any last words?

Not so sure Harley.
I like a ventflap on a 2cv, cause when a body in not top chopped, it make the proportions look right.
Secondly I have the feeling a split front window may look odd rather than cool.
If I were you I'd make a sketch or photochop or so, to see what it will look like.
However I like the safariwindow idea, did you consider to have normal front window with safari style opening? _________________ I like to play |

I took your advise Bart and did a simple photoshop mock up, it didn't look right at all. It would require much more modifing than I am capble of to get it right.
But I have been busy
I'm getting close to assembly now, still have some rust repair on one rear door and the tail light panel to finish...
