Well not quite, do you mean they put two very short springs with different stiffnesses after/ontop of each other?, resulting in a spring assembly with a length approximately the same as single rate road/racing spring?
Thanks, Bart |

etiennes spring pots are setup the original way, with 2 springs each. It's just these springs are harder and shorter.
what Bartje Geoff and Olli are talking about is theory...

No we were talking about the 2 springs a wheel system used on some race 2cv!

In case anyone's thinking of adopting such an arrangement, it's probably a good idea to choose the dimensions of any helper springs very carefully, since one of the UK 2CV race teams wasted a lot of time in the 2006 season trying to get a similar setup working properly.
When I tested one of the 'uprated spring + helper spring' combinations that they'd been sold, which had the helper spring longer than the uprated spring, it actually gave a softer initial spring rate than a Citroen original spring, giving far too much bodyroll on the racetrack.
Tbh, I reckon that progressive springs would be a better bet, but they'd be more expensive...

we looked into this we could get the travel and rate over the length we wanted, we got it to work with 2 springs, but it only suits our chassis set up as proved when we swaped the cans onto another car we started with them in year 2000 ish we did have some progressive springs done, but we fucked up the calculations, but they worked well on a 4x4 _________________ the older i get the more projects i start!!!!!!

I Guess the calcualtions is the most difficult part, that´s why designing springs is a very specialist and expensive hobby.
I think if you would visit Hyperpro, Technoflex or WP suspension, they would love to develop springs, but the price would be very high. Or maybe trade in with free advertising and cost price , who knows :) Also springs and shocks have to work together, to make it even more difficult.
And what about the extra wear on the chassis and arms, they are desinged for soft springs. _________________ 2CV, with Visa turbo charged |

Whose 4x4 were/are they on if I may ask? I'd like to know and talk with him one day, as the mad man and I are thinking about suspension changes as well.
Thanks in advance, Bart |
