Hi. Here is something about snailer AK-5's project. Engine is now in this 2cv only for testing, and it will be on other, older 2cv with suicide doors in someday...
This time, "testbench" looks like almost normal 2cv, only 2" sidepipe may tell there is something different than standard engine..?
Engine bay, first start with these parts..:
-visa engine with 7:1 compression ratio
-292 degree camshaft with raised valve opening
-ported cylinder heads
-bigger valves
-"worlds smallest" turbo what can find..!
-Megasquirt'n'Spark
-wideband lambda controller
-Ami8 final ratio on 2cv6 gearbox
-anti-rollbar at front
Next there is going to be GSA gearbox, so there will be better brakes in future. In fact, there will be ventilated discs... But we didn't manage to get this gearbox ready to this testdrive, there were problems enough to solve without it...
Another thing what is missing now is intercooler, there wasn't enough time to make that and piping for it... But there must be cooler, at "normal" driving speed there was manifold intake temperature over 80 degrees, it is way too much... And of course this kind of temperature "eat power"...
More photos here, this fun last after 340 km, and after that turbo's bearings broke... Seller told that it must be something problem with turbo, not with installation, so this will be continued when we get new turbo..!
And how it was to drive..? Fast, funny, easy, fast... With little throttle opening it ran easily 110-120km/h, and after that when hitted pedal there was something what makes us to smile...
We'll be back..! _________________ Make it today, tomorrow it's probably illegal... |

Good to sea this Jasu, I have also Visa with 1:7 compression and turbo on the same location, I only had problems on how te put the exhaust from cilinderhead to turbo. Great work. I see you plan to do something for heating window? _________________ 2CV, with Visa turbo charged |

Heating tube system was planned when there wasn't front wings installed, so there will be some modifications becouse there can't be added any heating tube now on these...
Just got picture of manifolds, they are totally custom made... As You can see, there isn't too much room for anything... _________________ Make it today, tomorrow it's probably illegal... |

Hi Jasu, if you pass the exhaust underneath to the left side you could use that for the heating tube, just an idea.
I also notice that your airintake is from within the bonnet, maybe smart idea to take the air from outside. _________________ 2CV, with Visa turbo charged |

It is IHI RHB31, and it is used in some Daihatsu. So it may be same turbo what You have...
And this air intake, it is only temporary solution, it will be something different but now there was "little bit rush" with this... Air filter was also only what he found from he's garage... _________________ Make it today, tomorrow it's probably illegal... |

If you change air intake maybe you don't need the aircooler? Still like your setup very much Jasu. _________________ 2CV, with Visa turbo charged |

It's quite easy to lower compression in Visa, exept earliest version, put couple gaskets between cylinder and block. We calculated that should be quite near 7:1 compression ratio... _________________ Make it today, tomorrow it's probably illegal... |

Hi Jasu,
What exactly went wrong?
At least make sure the turbo has a free oil drain in a suffciant diameter and a good pressure feed. 90 degrees cupper plumbing for example is not what I would do (not that I did see that on the pictures, they actually tell very little).

Hi Jasu,

There was some unbalance in turbine, so that broke bearings so fast... _________________ Make it today, tomorrow it's probably illegal... |

It's alive again..!
Only what we had to do..:
-new flanges for turbo
-new first part of exhaust pipe
-some modifications for turbo
-bracket for wastegate
-EGT-sensor to manifold
-oil pressure monitoring to turbo oil-line
-and again tuning of fuel maps...
Some extra-work also came, need to move starter motor gear on flywheel and try to solve massive fuel leakage at top of fuel tank...
More pics are coming when I'm back at home, now there is still 200 kilometres for me to go and AK-5 have nearly 500... _________________ Make it today, tomorrow it's probably illegal... |
