Stipped my visa today Need some help with identifying cylinder type and cam etc...
The engine plate on it is stamped: A06/635 I cross checked this on Cats site and realise it is a 2cv engine plate ... Yes i am sure i have a visa engine
OOooo think i have just answered my own post.
I reaseached in this thread: http://snail.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=478 and believe it to be Visa 2: v06/630, Large O-ring in head and Aluminium plate on bottom of cylinder, 98.5cm height...
Can the aluminium plate be reused? or should it be replaced???
I assume this is the 'better' cam in the V06/630 which can be reground to improve the lift, Cheers Kustombart.
Next I need to purchase 8.5:1 pistons, I am looking at having the cylinders re-coated HERE.
Where can i purchase a new Visa oil pump?
Cheers

From what I've read (so not personal experience) you'd probably be better off running a standard cam if you're planning on charging the engine... _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

Seems like good advice to me!
I spent the day running around organising engine bits;
-Cylinders have had a light hone and have been given the all clear by the electro plating dudes
-Heads are being reconditioned... Larger valves 1mm each, light porting & polishing, slightly heavier springs, M8 inlet and exhaust studs...
-Flywheel will be lightened and balanced by step father, aiming for 3.5kgs +/-
-I need to order 9:1 pistons and will use two/thicker shims under cylinder to drop ratio to about 8.4:1. I have asked Andre' PP... Maybe i chase your lead Horst.
A few questions for the Engineers!!!
I have spoken with a Crankshaft rebuilder and he has some questions for me.
- Camshaft is worn Can the sissor gear on the end of the cam be removed? replace bearing, weld, regrind cam??? how is the gear located, is it by a jig or a dowl/pin? Are visa Camshafts (630) available???
What are the specs of the 630 visa cam, degree off centre line, duration and lift?
- Crank feels strong Same as camshaft, can the cog be pressed off to replace main bearings?? Are they located into postion by a special jig? could they be marked before being pressed apart? Are the bearings available, what is the best material?
What i learn't today... No change to cam means easier to tune head, no problem of larger valves hitting each other or valve springs being uprated.
Easier to source correct pistons due to odd shape of top, plus cheaper!
Piston weight in flat twin dosen't upset engine balance like in standard engine, which means lighter pistons can be used without balancing crank!
Visa engine is not so easy to recondition, let alone in Australia...
Cheers

Hello Harley,
I continue to reply your PM here.
@Visa generations:
Some weeks ago I started to write down only facts about Visa Club engine, cause there are so many myths out there. It's based on workshop manuals, Microfishe and measurements. http://megasquirt-de.serviceline.ch/success/user0001/V06-6xxEvolution0001.htm (not finished. Some qeustions are open, maybe also some html bugs!)
@Large O-ring in head and Aluminium plate on bottom of cylinder, 98.5cm height:
http://megasquirt-de.serviceline.ch/success/user0001/V06-6xxEvolution0001.htm#ZylinderKoepfe
Later than Orga 1970 = 1.4.1982
@aluminium plate:
I'd reuse.
@cam and your tuning ideas (in general):
I guess this is the thread you mentioned. I can't see clearly what your plans are. Supercharging or classic natural aspirated tuning?
@Supercharging:
A German 2CV guy (Frank) turbocharged an OEM(!) Visa 665 engine sucessfully. C/R of 8.4 is fine, cam is good enough to achieve ~doubled power. Main problem is HEAT --> provide the biggest oil cooler and air intercooler you can fit into/under engine bay.
Swap to GS/GSA gear box.
No changes in valves, cams and so on.
Turbocharging is a big stress for the engine, don't spend so much money in a worn block, take it as a test dummy - and buy later a better one.
@N/A tuning:
I have no experience in cam shaft and valve tuning, because my goal is torque, mpg and 'clean' fume.
Don't polish intake port (turbulence flow required!), just outlet!
This days I increase compression rate up to 10.7 (9.5 piston + 1mm off the cylinder) for Ethanol use. This is my 'heaviest' engine hardware tuning.
@coating:
Why do you want to recoat the cylinders? Do you plan to use bigger pistons (VW beetle...)?
@Visa oil pump:
is it different to 2CV6? I read that someone built in a GS oil pump which feeds more oil caused on thicker wheel.
@cam shaft:
How did you see that it is worn? How many km/miles are on the clock (of the Visa engine, not 2CV).
sissor gear??? What do you say/want?
Specs: http://megasquirt-de.serviceline.ch/success/user0001/V06-6xxEvolution0001.htm#Nockenwellen
Hope this helps for the next days of investigetaions. :)

Supercharger arrived... $AU330.00 Ebay.
Thanks for the info Horst, pm sent, I think i have sorted out most issues.

sissor gear??? What do you say/want? |
Here is my Cam, notice wear on top two lobes, risers are also badly worn:
I wanted to know how the scissor gear, large gear on cam, is located/positioned, by a pin or jig. No problem now as i have found an engineer who is not scared of French engineering and can regrind the cam
@ Oil Pump:
Oil pump is same as 2cv but housing is different... my oil pump housing is pitted and worn, i guess it will need to be welded and machined.
@Visa Pistons:
Ecas has returned my email and still stock them, 77MM 9.0:1 652CC NFPŁ60.00 each. But i will look into some local forged pistons.
@ Crankshaft:
It feels good so i will leave it as is. I did have dreams of balancing and polishing it... but they where only dreams

Hello Harley,
@Supercharger:
Looks very nice. What are the datas or source of this. I'm afraid most scrapyards parts are much oversized for tiny 602/652ccm engines.
@Cam shaft:
Uuhhh, no smily.
I hadn't thougt about pittings like this when I removed the cylinders recently. I spend just a rough view but saw no damages. I picked up valve lift @ crank shaft degrees. Will after process the datas soon.
@scissor gear:
Hey native speakers. Anyone willing to explain which part is discussed?

hmm...
that camshaft looks like the one on my AM2.
the bits of metal that came of the cams went somewhere, didn't they ?
through the lube system...
I wouldn't be surprised if your crank bearings are scratched...

Horst,
looks as though the camshaft has had some of the 'drunken Eskimo' durability test...
Starting in cold weather, then straight up to 6,000 rpm before the oil had time to circulate?
Or did it just run low on oil, as the camshaft usually suffers badly from that event.
By 'scissor gear' I'd guess that Harley means the drive gear for the camshaft, but that's a very neat description of the spring-loaded arrangement between the two gears for removing backlash.
Wonder if he'd mind me 'borrowing' it?
Ken.

Sounds like the one Only thing i know about the engine is that it was replaced because it used to much oil, suspected cylinder wear! but Cylinders are near perfect Aluminium seal was split and a large amount of silastic had been used patch it

Don't scare me Jozef They feel good...
@ Supercharger
This is the same one mentioned a few times on this forum, AMR300.
AutoSpeed wrote: |
18.5cm in length (including the pulley) and the main body is around 15cm wide and 10.5cm tall. Although fitted by Subaru, the blower is manufactured by Aisin and is coded AMR300. This code suggests it displaces 300cc of induction air per revolution.
The 660cc supercharged Vivio engine is rated at the class regulation 47kW and has 84Nm of torque, so the AMR300 blower is suitable for only low power applications. This makes sense when you look at the small 45mm OD blower outlet pipe.
We'd be reluctant to push the AMR300 supercharger past 70kW - which means it's good for only sub 1.0-litre engines. |

harley :
you need to slide the flywheel side bearing off the crank and look inside. that will give you the condition of the rest of the crank. there should be no shiny spots or deep scratches. _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

Hello Harley,
@cylinder wear:
The Nicasil coated Alumiium cylinder must not wear. If Nicasil is shaped off (wrong piston rings?) the smooth Alu surace would be destroyed immediately --> dead.
@supercharger:
Thanks for the details. Nice country where parts like this are sold and tuning like this is published. AFAIK those hot Subaru models were never sold in Europe/Austria. Is it possible to get 2nd hand parts in Japan for reasonable prices? I don't know the scrapyard culture of Japan.
What is the weight of your new supercharger?
BTW I like the AutoSpeed online magazine. Not real scientific but often interesting & inspiring stuff and FREE. Silicon Chip is also very interesting, but not free. :(

We get a lot of Jap imports into Australia, The little Subaru was never sold in Australia. But every few months shipping containers arrive with hot Jap parts and engines etc. So yes it is possible to get 2nd hand Jap parts for reasonable prices.
I think it has to do with the strict emission laws in Japan and high turn around of new cars... We get the excess.

Supercharger weights 4.5kgs.

Yes Autospeed has some good articles, very Australian diy... "Not real scientific" don't let them hear that
This is an interesting article;
