Noticed it before, he dropped his asking price...

It is still a good job what they did. Remember I'm into this project for almost 8 years and even last week I found out I'd done something wrong.

Building a car to the standard as shown in the ad is still a big achievement as we only have some obscure pictures of a long, forgotten time.

Spring is in the air! Time to spend more time in the garage Laughing

After too much thinking (and too little drinking...) I found the most obvious solution for the fitment of the rear body (originally the entire body was mounted with only 4 bolts/nuts).

The biggest problem was to ensure that there was enough strength to hold the doors in place while driving and to fix the position of the rear fenders. Another issue was the 'triangular' panel between the doors and rear fenders. What was the reason Barbot made this section???

I found out that this triangle is an essential part for keeping the structural strength. Still not welded, the setup already shows a suprising stiffness.

Here are the pics!

Inner section, to be welded to the AU cross beam.

Outer section (metal and gray part), placed on top of the inner section and welded to the C-pillar/inner wing (rear body)

During the proces of getting my brains to a certain boiling point Idea I just spend the time doing some spring cleaning.... Clear metal helps to see the light at the end of the tunnel...... It also helps me to see all the dents that must be removed and all the rust holes that have to be repaired.

Thanks Bjorn,

Will you attend the Gemert meeting?

As an addition to the previous post another small update. Still with rough welds but I'll do the finishing and refining later.....

Triangular section welded onto the AU cross beam. If you closely examin the original pictures of the Barbot than you'll see the same location of the bolt/nut and a small piece of the AU cross beam sticking out beneath (still have to cut some of the surplus material as you can see).

From the inside out. The B (former C) pillar is held in place by a 5cm long steel pin/plate assembly which is welded to the triangular section.

And with the outer (rear)body panel loosely fitted

And again from the inside. Keep in mind that this part is not yet trimmed to size. But the whole section is already showing its strength.

I think it's time to give you all another update on the project...

Some time ago I was invited to pay Filip van Gool (VGS service in Belgium) a visit and the Dutch A-markt meeting in Gemert was the right moment to do so.

So before collecting a leftside, pre 53, reardoor for the Barbot (thanks EEEC and thanks Jan Nijboer) I drove to Filip his workshop......

As you might know he is also inspired by the Barbot project and he showed me his work and all the other innovating stuff he's manufacturing. This Guy is absolutely amazing!!!!!!

This visit clearly gave me enough energy and drive to tackle the next hurdle on the Barbot project: The doors Shocked

The door on the Barbot is lower. So it needed some drastic cutting and trimming. This is pre 53 stuff so it's hard to get and a failure costs money Rolling Eyes Bottom end of the door is cut, formed and again connected to the original tubular reinforcement. It looks like an original 2CV A door, but lower in height.

Close up. Note the 'stepped' sheetmetal parts. Maybe some millimeters wrong but as close to the original as possible.

Nice view. Not so brilliant as Etiennes photography but I like the atmosphere.

Unless you have a shitload of in house documents about the construction of the car I'm amazed at all the details of the body structure you have worked out/seen/discovered. It's an insane build.

Thanks for your comment Joseph....

What fuels my drive to perfection is for a greater part the Snail2cv website and for another part the support I get from the EEEC. Big thanks to you all!!!!

About the shitload of documents: I have some items and info almost nobody knows about and I will publish some unknown (not found on the entire web!!) information right now Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Here are the official (published) results of the 1953 Bol 'd Or:

Classement general:
1. Guy Michel (4cv Renault)
2. De Burnay (D.B.)
3. Dixneuf (D.B.) I have the impression this is actually Rene Bonnet because he was attending the race.
4. Chazel (Simca Aronde)
5 George (Porsche)
6. Prieur (Simca)

Categorie Sport 1.500cc:
1. Chazel (Simca Aronde)

Categorie Sport 1100cc:
1. George (Porsche)

Categorie Sport 750cc:
1. Guy Michel (4cv Renault)

Categorie Sport 500cc
1. Vinatier (Citroen Barbot) The car was equipped with the 348cc engine!!!

Categorie Course 1100cc:
1. Lambert (Lambert)

Categorie Course 750cc:
1. De Burnay (D.B.)

Categorie Course 500cc:
1. Minouflet (B.M.W.)

Vinatier was believed to be 19th overall and the Barbot was faster than the Lambert of Lambert (Winner Categorie Sport 1100cc) and the B.M.W. of Minouflet (Winner Categorie Course 500cc).

For reference: The results were printed in L'automobile no87, Juliet 1953 (Republishing this info on the web means a link to the Snail2cv website!!!!)

Another day, another update.

Spend the whole day on fixing the A posts. Way back in the project I made some A posts but someway I made a mistake and I messed things up Crying or Very sad

So, when placing the doors this mistake was biting me in the ass Sad

Today I started to fix the problem of a 40mm gap and no closing doors (they closed but deformed in a ugly shape). One of the advantages was that I now could reproduce the same look of the original Barbot without cheating. It turned out to look more like the original build Barbot did some 60 years ago...

A post and door placed. Spot welding 60 years old metal is a real nightmare. My intentions always were to weld all the seams after spotwelding but now I know that this is really important! (some welds came loose due to the brittleness of the original metal)

2 sheets of metal. One in an L form, the other is a U that is welded to the door hinge (original B post) It makes a superstrong A post!! The stepped/sloped shape is correct but it still needs some cosmetic work.

Nice view, looks like the original fold/seam.

For reference. See the fold/seam

Etienne, I keep my promise that I made to you some years ago: You are the first for a photoshoot Very Happy

Oh, and sorry Bjorn, I just see your post. I was there in the early morning, talked to Filip of VGS (he had the stunning Libyaraid 2cv!) and some others, collected 2 rear fenders and left before noon. Would like to stay and have a chat with you but my girlfriend needed the car.
