Hello,
I'm afraid my clutch will die soon. It's a V06/630 Visa engine --> prae 1982 3 finger clutch expected.

Which brand/model/type of 2CV/Visa clutch do you recomend to transmit torque in a torque (and slightly power) tuned engine for a longer time?

Thanks
»Horst

Hello,
nor reply?
Which clutch ist the best to withstand advanced torque on older Visa engines?
I heard about a diaphragma clutch which suits also to the older engines?
http://www.mehari-2cv-spare.co.uk/article.do?refArticle=1013300
Does anyone know any details? Quality?

What do the racing guys use?

Please help urgent - my clutch is dying!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Horst,
I don't know which make is the best/strongest. I'm not sure but think I have heard that 3 finger type is slightly stonger than a diafragma type.

Racers just use normal diafragma type clutches, their flighwheel are lighter and probably easier to lighten. Moreover they mostly deal with power rather then torque and just need a clutch which last for 24 hours... At the end of the day I never heard of racers having problems with the clutch...

I'd say, just get a decent make diagframa clutch and it will last the next 50 to 100 thousand if you are not driving like mad.

Good luck, Bart

visa engine means compatible with GS type flywheel or am I wrong ?

they have bigger diameter diaphragm clutch (so does AMI Super) maybe there's an idea there ?

Hello Bart and JoZeF,
thanks for your replies!

The clutch seem to be 'recovered' (don't ask me why).
If I hit the gas pedal just at higher revs the clutch can withstand, maybe even at lower revs and WOT but I have avoided this during the last weeks.

I don't drive mad so I decide (90%) to get a old style hybrid diaphragma clutch - which I can purchase locally too.

@GS flywheel (10%):
What I could find out: the GS flywheel screw pattern should be the same, but it reaches more into 2CV bell housing than 2CV. This would be no problem since I use Visa/LNA bell housing.
But I like the 10deg (+45deg) BTDC mark of the OEM Visa inductive sensor pickups. Hmmm I could make simple marks on the flywheel...

What's about the starter?
GS starter is fixed on the opposite site, will this work? I'd like to keep a common 2CV starter.

Hi Horst, the GS flywheel will fit the Visa engine and the clutch is bigger but you say you have Visa/LNA bell housing, if you also have a Visa/LNA 'gearbox input shaft' it has different splines to a GS 'gearbox input shaft' so will not work with a GS clutch I think.

Hello Joolz,
thank you very much for the hint with the input shaft!
I will not look (and pay) for a rare Ami Super bell housing so I can give up the GS clutch + flywheel idea...

Maybe I can fit a short GSA 5speed box into the 2 cylinder frame (and Ami8 body) at the same time when I replace the clutch.
It was damned narrow to fit the LN gear box so I don't know how to fix the 5 speed box. Even when I shorten the back cap of the box as much as possible.
But that's another story...

First I have to find out the electric problem to get the Ami finished until world meeting...

J.Cats have a guide on adapt the GS gearbox to a Type A engine, and some advices on how to have success (gear relations that works):

maybe a 4spd GS box would be just as nice and half the trouble ?

Hello JuanNavarro,
thanks for the link. That's exactly what I've done (LN gear box + LNA/Visa bellhousing + GSA brakes). But my final goal would be to use a short GSA 5 speed box.

Hello JozeF,
The problem is the 1st gear under difficult conditions (heavy load, slightly offroad terrain...). Since I use a very long gear box (AX DIesel) in BX 14 Break I know the feeling of long gears. Under normal circumstances this 'strong' engine is able to pull without troubles.
The Visa isn't as strong as the BX engine :) so I'd prefer to have a 'short' 1st gear.

I've got a GSA 4 speed box to test the long gear ratio, but this would be just a test project.
The journey to worl meeting would be nice test for smooth cruising, but I have not enough time to do this before. Ami8 (+ my EFI mods) require/s more time than 2CV front.
