Max, we can have a go at Tonys idea (which was pretty much the same idea that I had tbh) when you come down and we lower it. We can take it to my work on the saturday and fuck about with the forklift and the welders and see what we can make out of it, is the chassis a Citroen one or a box section one? I cant really tell from your picture. _________________

The other way we could straighten it id to achor the front and rear of the chassis and pick it up with the forklift, if the chassis is weaker here, it will be the first bit to bend back to shape. Ill have a reet good look at it for you though. _________________

just be careful loading the chassis, if it is weak then it may just snap if you shock load it... gentle pressure looking and listening, then weld strengthning bits anyway!
Good luck!
Max, when driving to Russ, tie the bonnet down! _________________ 86 Dolly

Hello Max. Just seen the photo and to be honest, thats exactly where they start to bend when they go .
I still stick by what i said originally. My friend Richard has had this very problem only a month ago and i suggested to him he try this. It worked a treat and he says it feels more firmer on the road, less twisting of the chassis i guess.
Let us know how you get on with it . _________________ If it works ok, "LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE". |

well... its official. my chassis is completly dead. drove about a mile and it bent in a little more. then got nervous as i had a 150 mile trip. i got taken away on back of a lorry. much safer.
so now hopefully i will be doing another project... im going to be mixing up the two shell i have taking the good bits etc, and hopefully going to be getting an ami super chassis wit gs 1220 engine in... (thats if the chassis is in good condition. )
so watch this space for my wegen 1220 topic.
will send pics when i back...
Max. |

bad news brings good news...
It's gonna be a fun car with that lump under the bonnet.
Careful how you lenghthen it, though... it can quickly look bad if you're not careful.

Super chassis are thicker steel than 2cv... I've never seen a rusted beyond repair AMI Super chassis, and I've seen a few... _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

Changing a chassis is the same job whatever chassis you put...
the only modification really required is for gearchange bonnet length and headlamp fixings... not exactly overly difficult
