Hi everyone,
As a 'noob' to Snail & 2cvs I'd like to ask you seasoned/ experienced Snailers what is the Best method to use to lower a 2cv by about 4" or 10cms front and back.

I've previously had experience in lowering all of my cars from my Morris Minor pickup ( torsion bars ), VWs, Chevy S-10 Club Cab using Bell Tech equipment ,scratch built all steel '29 Model "A" roadster pickup, to using Air-ride on my '64 Impala 327 SS TuDoor Hardtop "Bellflower Cruiser" and finally to new TCI tubular A-arms, TCI crossmember, Fat Man Fabs front subframe with air-bags, relocated shocks on my last car a '48 Plymouth Club Coupe and rear air-bags , uprated shocks and ladder bars on the rear Chevy axle.

What I wish to end up with is
1) lower ride height ,
2) decent ride quality,
3) a method that is safe and durable.

I hope this is not seen as a silly or a stupid question but as I not yet owned a 2cv, currently looking for a project to "hotrod" , so I have lots to learn !

Thanks in advance !

Hi!

YouŽll find all you need know on this forum. I guess there are two typical ways:

1. Lower the car by turning the adjustment nuts on the suspension rods/tie rods so they get longer. This will result in increasing resistance in steering effort though - the rods might also run out of thread. To combat these negative "Side effects" you can buy lonre rids (e.g. Fransoze) or make longer rods yourself. To counteract the tough steering you can modify the swing arms - see here http://snail.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=514 /"How To: Extending tie rod ends" and

2. Channel the body - drop it over the frame. For example by lifting the floor to the top of the sills which lowers about 60mm - but you will also have to channel fire wall, lift pedal assembly, modify gear linkage and hand break linkage, lower seats, add a joint to the steering post to be able to angle it downwards, lower/cut down headlight frame, cut down front fenders on the inside etc - there are several good projects to check - for example the thread "Dolly Parton (my car)", "After Spassibas...", "Dyane 6".

And you must change the springs for some stiffer ones if you want a decent ride !
