I'm not going to do anything drastic to it!
the roof is a pretty much consumable item, so If I put a little window in mine , so what?
I will keep the original bonnet safe, so five seconds restores that.
and I have no intention of blinging it up, less is definately more
the worst crime I intend to commit is welding up the rear windows, and that's a personal choice (I believe four window bodies were available much later than 66).
Ettiene, I thought mine was an early rear panel? apart from a very early one with a central number plate light, what's the difference ??? _________________ if it aint broke, fix it till it is |

No after September 1965, all 2cvs have 6 windows, except for the 2CV Special between 1975 and 1978.
About the rear panel :
The first one is the "3 medaillons" only available on long roof 2CVs : A and AZ only. From 1949 to early 1960's.
Second one appears in September 1957 with the metal boot lid : only on azlp, and then aza and azam until April 1964. It has a center plate light and 2 stamping (hope it's the right word).
Then the third one (your) until February 1970. No stamping, plate in one piece, rear lights with plate lights on their side...
2CV world is made of details, that is why I'm very skeptical about what you' making... As Neil said I think there is as many differences between a 50s 2 cv and an 80s one than with your.
Btw which model and year are you trying to copy ? Late 50's azlp ? _________________ www.super2cv.com |

Keep up the good work. I'm very interested in what your doing. It seems that some of the guys who over see this forum do not have the vision to move the hobby that we all share in a forward direction. I hope that I speak for up all to say lets not get stuck doing our cars one style only but that we keep the basic style as our guide and always push forward with new thinking. |

Say my name at least. And snail is a forum with free speaking about vintage style modified 2CVs. Everyone can give his point, we don't need your kind of hypocrite new thinking. And if people don't want to hear any bad comments about their stuff, they are free to not post anything. That's how it works.
Back to car please (and that is moving forward). _________________ www.super2cv.com |

I'm not trying to copy any year, or build a show car, I'm merely adding the style choices that are my favourite, resulting hopefully in my "ideal" 2cv
the full length fabric roof is lovely, but how impractical is it, as compared to a bootlid?
I think you may be right about a malle bombee being the right compromise.
I'm trying to resist the bling, and keep it very very simple, I'd have loved to have kept the patina, but there's so much welding that it will just look patchy and bodged.
I'm used to collectors hating change, I have a landrover (they even have a special name for them, rivet counters)
and a Royal Enfield, (Indian), so hear "it's not a real one is it". _________________ if it aint broke, fix it till it is |

Why don't you buy a 1950's model if you want one. This is a complete unmodified 1966 2 CV AZA, it's certainly not that common. + even if you modify it, it will still be obvious it's not a 1950's model.
Sorry if it sounds rude, but I just can't understand why people with nice car want to spoil them... |
Welcome.
To be honest i have to agree with Etienne. The AZA is quite a rare variant & it seems a shame to lose it. If a genuine ripple bonnet was out of budget, then a 'nomal' 80s 2cv would've been a better base (in my opinion). |
Can only agree on this point.
Bren, maybe..., try to consider to change your mind? Moreover the ideal 2cv is probably possible.. _________________ I like to play |

I have agreed a deal on a proper 50's shell (well the whole car, for 100 euro's). without a CG though (V5). till it get's here I'm not sure wether to rob it of the parts I want, or remove and restore the body at my leisure, then do a simple body swap, and just use mine as it is for now.
either way, my car would no longer be original!!
or trundle around in mine, standard, and search for a 2cv6 donor for the 50's body, the problem is the price, 2cv6's with a French log book, in terrible condition are fetching silly money.
it took me six months to find my 2cv, and I drove for miles and saw some right sheds.
decisions decisions, I'll just carry on repairing it for now _________________ if it aint broke, fix it till it is |

obviously (well it seemed it to me) most of this work is in my history, but I'm now coming up to the point where reports are "live", so postings will be slower.
this weekend saw me finally welding in the floor plates, I thought "great, they're only welded on three sides, they'll be easy".
it took a lot longer than I expected.
instead of the foam seals, I've used sikoflex sealant, it's a really strong bodyshop sealer, and adds strength whilst still being flexible.
I've run it along the top of the outriggers too, to reduce some of the "pik-pok" tendency of the floorplates.
it can be cut with a knife (just) to remove the body at a later date if needed
although the base of the bulkhead (heelboard) is smooth not rippled, it's not just a panel welded on top, it's two panels formed into the same triangle section as the original.
there's just the rear inner wings (where the bumpstops are only just still attatched)
and a few small holes in the boot floor (small enough that it's not worth replacing the whole floor)
and that'll be the end of the welding!!!
the original joint sealer has dried and cracked, so that'll need digging out, before I pump grey sikoflex over all the joints, old and new. _________________ if it aint broke, fix it till it is |

sorry about the photo's, I've tidied up my photo album
I tried to finish the welding on Sunday, but it was so cold that my gas regulator froze up
so I put my seats in to see how they look
first I had to make them
it wasn't cost effective, they've cost about as much as buying a set, and have taken many hours, but they're unique and high quality
the backing is sail cloth, and the cover fabric chosen from Ikea of all places
I made the extra effort to sew on band covers for the rear of the rear seats too
they need to settle a little, then I'll sew on some elastic to keep everything in place, the fabric has been sprayed with fabric sealer to keep it dry and clean, and I made a seat cover for the drivers seat that slips on and matches the others, cos I'm a grubby mechanic!!
I also made my own seat elastics, using hooks recovered from the old ones, bungee cord, and fencing hog rings, I've made the seats much firmer than normal.

I have bought another deuch
it was meant to be a donor to retro my ride.
but it's in a very good solid state, it looks tatty, but is better than many a 2cv6 structurally .
I don't have a log book (carte gris) so it's only good as spares to me, but I really don't want to cut it up!!!
it has many features I've never seen before
the interior light is the primary reason I bought the car I've never seen another, and it is just so right, (and definatley original), I am having that away whatever happens!!
it also has a folding passenger seat, which I've never seen before, (it's on the drivers side, but that's very likely because the drivers seat wore out)
and a six volt demister.
these are the few items I've spotted at first glance, there may be more, the rear panel is a three light job (two sides and centre number plate light)
the chassis is remarkably sound (better than my first) and the body is certainly salvageable (again better) .
but the real gem is the mileage, it's about 3600km, and it's very likely right, there's no wear on the wheel, and the knife edges are like new, it "bounces" like a new car with no creaks or groans.
I don't know what to do with it??? I bought it to "rape", but it seems a crime!!! _________________ if it aint broke, fix it till it is |

Switch identity with another car that is less interesting/worse. It has been done before (many times...) _________________ Praise the lowered! |
