this was all I bought for the repairs

in hindsight, I should have purchased a lot more pre-formed panels, but hindsight is always 20/20 Rolling Eyes

underneath the rear seatbox, was a particularly nasty job,

I made it a lot stronger than original, effectively creating another outrigger/body support, but it would have been much simpler with formed panels.

my outriggers are welded to the box section sills, making a very rigid shell, I know they shouldn't be, but I've done it in a way that a quick slice with a fine cutting disc, and the body will come off as normal

this monster steel plate was just resting inside the car (it's very thick, it's just about removable by one person)

and the front seat was just resting on the plate Shocked
the front seat was actually a rear seat on a home made frame (quite well made)

fortunately I was given the original bench seat with the car (individual canvasses, rather than a full cover, but beyond use)

my plan doesn't involve lowering, it's mountain country here, with small bumpy tracks, and snow, the standard ride height and soft suspension comes into its own here, it'll be my daily drive, so practicality has to take priority, I'm going more for retro styling

You are welcome, no arguments about that.
But I think you missed the read before posting: (more people do)

"The SNAIL forum is about simple, lowered, old looking style (pre 70's) custom 2cv."

Nice to see that you are restoring the car, but the people here prefere lowered cars in "snail" style.
Otherwise it will be just one forum like every other forum.

So continue restoring it and lower the body! Very Happy

thank you Wout.
that's the nearest I've received to a welcome!
I had thought I'd made an error of judgement.
I did read the pre post rules, and okay It's not lowered, but it fits all the other criteria, and I thought that may be enough.
but the responses made me think otherwise.
I've been aware of the forum for about a year, and thought now was the time to join, after such an unwelcoming reception, I read back through the threads, and it appears I'm not alone, there's a strong fanbase of retro'd 2cv's here, so I'll continue to post.
if anyone feels I don't belong say so!, and if you feel I should be elsewhere, please post a link!

Keep up the good work, the car sure need lot's of attention but it will be great. I enjoy the photos (especially of the fantastic seat frame - that made me laugh) and I'm sure you belong to this crowd rather than the "old guy" crowd. And who knows - you might develop a taste for lowering, or not. Only, in this forum you will have to endure comments on style - that's what it is all about as Etienne wrote. All comments will not be harsh though. Mostly they are helpful. And I think maybe by know your have received your "dose of harshness". Moreover - daily driving has to be respected.

thank you

when it's been too nasty to be outside welding, I've been working on other aspects.
I'm very pleased with my roof, it's a piece of materiel from a curtain-side lorry, welded down the seams (I have a plastic welding gun) it's a little heavier than standard, but should be as tough as nails,

as you can see, it has no rear window yet, I would like to make a small oval one from perspex.

yes I know if it has an oval window the fabric should go all the way down (like sacreliege) but I like the steel bootlid, and may yet go for a "malle bombee" so for now I have stopped there, and will sort the window later, at least I can remove the oval window and fit the large one if I don't like it, it's not so easy to do it the other way around.

it was made in the winter, and is a bloody tight fit (outside opening), I'm hoping the wrinkles will drop out in the summer sun.

and the rivets were shockingly expensive Shocked £1.20 each, might not sound much, but there's twelve of them!

nice and tight Very Happy

there are more then enough old cars that fitted a metal bootlid
so why not on this one

But there's never been 2 CVs with small rear window and metal bootlid.
The malle bombee would look more right then I'd say.
Will you change the rear face for a pre-1964 ?

I know there hasn't, but it doesn't mean I can't!!!

I'm undecided about a malle bombee, I'd like to rest one in place and see it!!

I don't understand "the rear face" sorry.

I would like to close up the rear windows if that's what you mean.

the rear panel is a small light panel already (and I noticed today, has the receiver hooks for a full length roof).

Sorry I meant the rear panel.
And no you don't have the good one. You're is the post april 1964.

The hooks for the long roof are on all 2 CVs, until the end in july 1990.

not meaning to put anyone off this forum, but seeing as you aren't lowering it i think you would be more welcome on the international forum. Wink

It's a very nice car, please keep it as it is...
Why don't you buy a 1950's model if you want one. This is a complete unmodified 1966 2 CV AZA, it's certainly not that common. + even if you modify it, it will still be obvious it's not a 1950's model.
Sorry if it sounds rude, but I just can't understand why people with nice car want to spoil them...

Welcome.

To be honest i have to agree with Etienne. The AZA is quite a rare variant & it seems a shame to lose it. If a genuine ripple bonnet was out of budget, then a 'nomal' 80s 2cv would've been a better base (in my opinion).
