Hello Ami Fans :-)

Had my ear to the ground and I I heard an ami owner in distress.

So describe the problem to me....

You try and close the door and it just doesn't work? Keeps sort of bouncing off the catch?

I reckon what you have here is a busted latch spring.

Look at the door catch on the side of the door and you'll see on the lower part the latch. It looks a bit like a number 6.

This is controlled by a spring which keeps it facing the correct direction. If the spring snaps the latch is not presented to the striker plate the right way and the door won't shut.

The spring is also used on GS door latches (similar system).

Can you take your door card off and have a look at the lock from the inside. I will see if I can find a spare spring. PM me your contact details.

Cheers

Matt

I hope that's a compliment Bob, but yes I have owned Ami's for 13 years now and that probably explains a lot.

Lol channelled Ami? Have you seen the state of our roads? I think they are the worst in Europe. Very Happy Cars with height or an option of height maybe the way forward here. What I need is someone to show me the setup of an M35 so we can get a kit made then we can have height when we need it and leave it low for show. DS was great for that.

I owned and ran the GSA 1300 cc Lowered RHD Ami super service for a bit (ex Pete Sparrow) and it was a bit crashy over bumps but that thing did fly. I recall heading south fast down the M1 flashing a BMW 535i to get out of the way. You know when you are going fast in an Ami 8 when your stainless steel bumpers are glowing Cherry red lol.

As my Ami 8 Club Centrafuge is currently in the shop being restored (to stock original) I'm using my Wartburg 353S Tourist everyday. That's on Irmscher Alloys (rare) and on stilts. Took it to the VW Slough swap meet and smoked those guys out with my strawberry 2Stroker, it drew a crowd. Got to love the 'Burg its craptastic.

Now do any of you chaps know if I can get a gradalux rear blind for my Ami 8?

Hi

Do we know if Wooly has closing doors on his Ami 8 now? Or is he going to have to have an Ami 8 Plein Air? Laughing

Channelled cars are actually really better for bad roads because then you have better ground clearance. My regular 2 CV is hitting the ground 100 times more than my channelled Dyane for example.
