I like the music of Herman Brood And His Wild Romance.
In the seventies I bought two records called “Street” and “Shpritsz”.
In 1978 Herman did his Cha Cha tour all around Holland. One of the pop-temples he visited was the Luxor at Hoensbroek,
in the Southern Lowlands or the so called Dutch Mountains.
It was the time of his hit single “Saturday Night”. During the gig the crowd went crazy!
They smashed the whole place. It was the last concert at the Luxor, a former bioscope that was rebuilt to be a concert hall.
That night I experienced a thrill like I had been to the first gig of The Rolling Stones in Holland. This was at the Kurhaus in Scheveningen.
And you all know what happened there.
The picture shows my car in front of the closed Luxor. (Yes I know, it’s not lowered.)
You see the work of a graffiti-artist, a portrait of Herman, made in 2008. The building still shows the sign CHA CHA TOUR. The words:
HERMAN BROOD AND HIS WILD ROMANCE fell off during the years. The neon sign LUXOR is removed. But the artist sprayed paint where it used to be.
After 30 years some people still talk about it, and yes, I was there!

In december we went to a performance of the Dutch rockband Di-rect.
They played Tommy of the Who. My daughter is Di-rect fan, I'm a fan of the Who!
In the audience there were a lot of parents and children. It was a real 60's / 70's revival.
The Who was not really mod, but Mods liked them. Then Quadrophenia was released. A real mod album.
Back in the time when I used to put on a parka, I had a Vespa Sprint 150 (1965). With the Mod target on the side.
But all this was years after "Quadrophenia"! Jam, Style Council, Paul Weller time.
(I'm not that old).
Di-rect with the Mod target on their T-shirt.

I like Rock`N`Roll, Rockabilly and Oldschool Rock like Steppenwolf, Jimi Hendrix, ACDC...
And sometimes things like the Sonics or the Kinks. |
