Time ago I have done a chart, reproduced in this thread and already published at the spanish 2cv forum, where there is shown a comparative between the standard 2cv wheel (135/80/R15) and a wide range of variants, showing wides from 125mm to 195mm, profiles from 80% to 45%, and rims from 14" to 17 1/2"

There are highlighted in green, the most homologable values (at least here in Spain, that are in the +/-3% ratio (and advance per revolution) from the original 2cv wheel (the value for that, is of course 0).

So this chart pretend to be a reference for beter choosing wheel alternatives to the 2cv

Be cautelous using this chart, because it only shows mathematical numbers:
-Not all the wheels listed are available in the market.
-The rims with less diameter than original 15" will probably not fit, because the steering ping arrangement.
-Having into account the low power of the engine, a wider wheel will compromise the response, and thus probably will be necesary to chose a less circunference (negative percent number) hurting the top speed.

I want to go a step far and make a list with cars where there is posible find some of this wheels, so the neumatic is available at low prices, and we can find the steelies rims to make a complete rim using the inner part of the 2cv rim, and the exterior from a donnor.

Im investigatig for the narrower wheels with 15" rims and I found this:

New mini > 145/65/R15 [-5%]
Smart (front) > 155/60/R15 [-5%]
Smart (rear) > 175/55/R15 [-4%]
Partner (not all) > 165/65/R15 [0%]
Grande Punto > 175/65/R15 [+2%]
Grande Punto / Picasso > 185/65/R15 [+4%]
Xara > 195/65/R15 [+6%]

I read a trhead were somebody mounts a 155/65/R15 only winter wheels? Somebody knows which car is the rim picked from?

Also I can find a 155/70/R15 [0%] (ideal, because is not wide, all weather, and have the same circumference than the original, and even it is cheap less than 60€) neumatic available in the market, but I cannot found a car mounting this measure

the tyre (155/70 15) you're looking for is from a VW Beetle (old ones) Backfire (also on this forum) has 4 of those on his project car. and it comes out quite nice!

for my pick-up project i'll use 155's in front and 185 at the rear, but i have to alter the wheelhubs, because i've got 4 stud beetle rims. somewhere else on this forum is posted a lot about this subject.

also look at Steffan's channeling project, he took 13'' rims and put the center of a 2CV rim in it, welded all round.

greetzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

155/70 15 are wheels from the first mercedes a -class. the elk-test one :)
unforunately they get really rare and more and more expensive.

i also got them on my car. looks nice.
it's rubbing a little bit on the fuel-filler-pipe sometimes, but i don't give a fuck.

i thought that the old beetles got: 155 / 80 / 15 ?!

the 155/70-15 I have are dunlop winter tyres, dead cheap and easy to come by. I paid 28 € each and for total about 20 € shipping. There are more winter tyres available, general they are i little bit smaller then the normal road tyre.

Nothing to do with beetle, or smart.

i got michelin for the summer, they run really smooth,
my dunlop winter tires run like shit in contrast to the michelin.

i paid about 50 € each.

I think they are some "normal" car 15" rims (maybe 5,5" wide)
where someone changed centers front Citroen GS.

My idea with this topic is this, to find alternative rims, and their corresponding tire, to lobotomize its external part and put there the center of a 2cv/Gs rim there, just like the pic show.

Another 155 tyre that will fit a 2cv rim is the Vredstein 155 mud and snow.

They fit a standard 2cv rim but are abour 3cm taller. Ive used them for the last 10 years with no problems. If you intend on doing off road tho I'd recommend fitting tubes or dirt can get between the rim and tyre and you'll end up with a flat tyre.

Im still looking for rims.

I found that the 165/65/R15 is a very cheap and popular nowadays (searching in various online tire shops, this is the size that more brands manofacture) but the problem is that there isnt a search engine to find what car mounts this tire Evil or Very Mad

Im trying to find cars in steel rims that mounts this size (any 165/xx/R15 where xx is any profile do the job), do you know any?

Another thing im trying to find without success is if the widened wheels are all home made, or there are shops where you can order a custom steel rim? that is, where you can find the external part new.

Peugeot 404 had 165R15 tires. And the rims fit to the 2 CV. See Jozef's AZU 1500cc...
