Hi
Here is a little bit of 2cv custom history :
The Citroen AMI Super Sedan modified by Peter Sparrow...
Back in the early 90s, he bought the car and fitted a 1300 GS engine with 5 speed Gearbox. A couple of body mods and severe lowering and he was ready to cruise :
the car was smoothed and he fitted Dyane headlamps with modified AMI 8 headlamp surrounds. the front indicators were rear DS units concealed behind the grill. At the back he fitted Ford 39 tail lights with blue dots
Black flames on yellow paint... it didn't look too bad like that
But it get's better... read on...
He drove the car for some time, but decided that the 1300 GS engine was not powerful enough... so he found one of these :
An Alfasud 1500 TI, ex-grasstrack racer...
And proceeded to fit the complete engine and gearbox onto the AMI Super chassis... He worked BIG TIME to get this running (I can testify), and in 1995, he drove to the French national 2cv meeting in Berck sur Mer...
The cars flames became pink and he fitted GSA Cottage Alloys (could have been worse, we avoided steel Delta Mics... )
And the bonnet was cut out for the air filters...
After that, the car was repainted with blue scallops, and made an appearance at the 2cv World meeting in 1997 in Holland...
Peter then sold the car, and it was sold on a few times and was never heard of again...
Now, I for one, knew of this vehicle, and was curious to know how he had fitted the engine and gearbox onto the chassis... I spent some time at the breakers under Alfa bonnets with a measuring tape...
Later on I managed to get in touch with Peter (I found out he has a garage specialised in 2cv racing and such)... this was about 4 years ago...
He was surprised to hear from a guy wanting info about this AMI, but he helped as much as he could.
He also advised me NOT to try to do this modification, because, in his own words : "when I had finished the car, it was awful, it was so scary to drive"...
Now that is EXACTLY what I like to hear
A couple of years later, I was surfing on Ebay UK, looking for AMI Super bits... and found this :
Lurking in the dark, waiting for it's hour...
I was completely , seeing this car actually still in existence, was really crazy
It was all there, with carpet inside and GSA seats...
I had to buy it...
The guy delivered the car to Calais, and I drove nearly 600 km down to Rambouillet, near Paris... I broke down about 10 km after getting it (the fan belt snapped) but other than that... it was a BLAST !!!
The day I arrived :
It needed total rebuild, the chassis was good, but the body was completely rusted out (despite what the seller had told me...)
So, I decided it was time for a new skin...
I ditched the body :
Bye bye...
And have spent the last 4 months, rebuilding chassis, engine, and fitting a new shell...
The car will be ready soon, I will keep you posted...

Hi Robin, welcome on board.
I cannot tell you about legal issues in Belgium, however, I think with such an engine, it will probably be difficult where you are, from what I have heard.
What do you mean about "pulling up" ? you mean 0 to 100 km/h ? Quarter mile figures ?
I do not have any as yet, because the car has now changed body and weight, and I didn't do any when the car was still driveable...
It is quite quick, but the engine and gearbox are heavy, I think it would be possible to build something nearly as quick with a 1300 GS engine.
Soon on the road, I will keep you informed

Hi Jozef,
It's great to see someone is so nice to restore this famous Ami Super. I first saw this car at the UK Nationals in 1993 I think. Allready as a little kid this fast looking Ami blew me away. Are you going to restore it in it's original first look with black flames and steel GS rims? Keep up the good work. I also have a picture of the green Super Service, taken in 1993. I'll try to find this picture and post it here. Do you know if this car is still alive?
Greetings, Sam |

Hey Sam
i'm afraid I will disappoint you by saying that the shell is no longer an AMI Super shell...
I feel that in someway it would have been cool to rebuild it as it was in 95, but, time has passed, it has now become my car and choices are mine as to what I want to do with it.
If I were to rebuild it yellow and black, that would be with an easy 1300 GS and 5 speed gearbox... i still have the title with original english number, so that could be possible, maybe, one day...
If you have pictures of my car as it was in 93 I would be very happy if you could send them to me, as well as the peppermint Ami Super Service. I have no idea if that one still exists, I will ask Peter if he knows about it

what can i say about driving this, it was so dangerous it was great
mid corner you backed off to make the front end grip,
speed was great would cruise all day at 100mph about 3500rpm
due to the wheel size, a 1300 gs lump would not touch it!! it was at least 120bhp, i loved it but didnt need it any more!!
just a thought, alfa sud 13" wheels ami super 15" how much more speed??
great car for men with balls
for info the 8 service from the first pic is still about with a single choked 1300 gs motor (from the super except for the twin webbers it had, hence the bonnet holes) bonnet replaced after berk when repainted _________________ the older i get the more projects i start!!!!!!

Hiya
Yeah, I confirm that !!!!
When I drove it home, It was just crazy ! Wheelspin available up into third, 4th gear fully functional for highish speeds, and then just pop it into 5th and Drop the revs, but keep (and increase) speed...
13 inch did you say ???
lookee what I have here....
Geoff, are you planning on coming to the World meeting this year ? _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

About the increased diam. of citroen wheels, in fact it was fitted with 135 R 15, which actually corresponds theoretically to the 13 inch tyres fitted on the Alfa, so I don't think there was much difference...
However, If I fitted low profile tyres on these modified 13 inches, I guess it would be climbing up walls...
then again, the chassis would probably hit the floor before getting anywhere _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

see it was on 145 fronts when i sold it the owner after me sold it to the dealer , wasnt the alfa on 60 profile?
chassis was on the floor once when i got a front puncture while on the motor way, great at digging up tarmac with the knife edge
any way who dose your wheels? _________________ the older i get the more projects i start!!!!!!
