I guess this has been covered before but I can't find it Rolling Eyes what is the largest tyre size you can fit on a standard (but lowered) 2cv?
By standard I mean no cut away wings or anything.

Had a guy come and look at the Dolly today, I was going to sell her but he only wants the front end as he is building a van from a kit, had pangs of regret over the weekend about her going and I finally couldn't do it Embarassed Embarassed this is the second time I've tried to sell her and failed so I guess I will just have to keep her Rolling Eyes and get it on the road.
Going to move her up the barn soon and start work, just have to juggle my time between the 2cv and the Pop Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Laughing Rolling Eyes

max 145, maybe 155 but since I have 155 and I already have to change the rear fenders to fit them. Maybe if you put 155 on original rims, but that would be stuppid.

You can go very wide if you really want, even with original rims. However 155 wide is the maximum according to ISO standards, so at least noting stuppid about that... Wink Moreover, when you would look for smart tyres you may find not so high ones which look really good on a lowered 2cv. For example 2 years ago on Spa I have seen 155x15 pirelli roadtyres on a racer.

Cheers, Bart

Cheers guy's.
I'm just looking for a cheaper option with tyres, I find I can get 145 or 155 far cheaper than the usual 2cv tyres.
Now I have decided to keep the old heap and get her on the road I have to do it as cheaply as possible, I need all my spare cash for the Pop and the Indian Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes but I really do fancy a change from driving the Land Rover everyday Laughing

hiya

fit the 145/80/15.

they are cool because the higher diameter gives you the gearing equivalent of the longer AMI8 differential, but with the much better spaced gears of the 2cv

I'm running 145/15 michelins on my Azu. More than that in "full height" looks too big in 2cv.

yeah, you don't really need too wide tyres on a 2cv, especially on the back.

Olli, you have ami Super axle on the back of yours ? I'm not sure they would fit with a normal 2cv axle (155 probably wouldn't)

I'm not sure but I think I have Ami8 axle on back (so my arms are 1,5cm more narrow than in 2cv)

i drive 155 / 70 / 15 ( old mercedes a class ).

it depends on how low the car is.

i think they are driveable!

perhaps at the front: 135 / 70 15 ( smart )
at the back those 155 / 70 15.

i also saw original rims with 165 tires ( bug? ). at the back that would only fits with original fenders when the car isn't lowered much.

Had a good look under the complete car and the chassis is f**ed so if I intend keeping it I'm going to have to use the spare chassis, sorry mate Embarassed Embarassed

I have 155/78 on 5 inch rims and I can tell you that with original fenders it doesn't fit.

145 front tires (turn little more easy then 155) and 155 on the back. Firestones, hard as a rock, and no roll at all.

I modified nothing much, hammered the enforcements a little on the inside fender, but only after they grew because of rust, lol.

And i driver reasonable low, lower then is good for the car with Dutch traffic bumps and so

If you go for 155 on the front, you will not be able to make sharp turns easy, specially when driving low, 145 is a good compomise.

I drive on Nangkengs now in front, and they are ok really. The firestones i liked better, but were not easy to get anymore here.

The Nankengs have a little more "balloon" type of shape, and i don't really dislike that, the firestones are more "flat" so to say. I don't un on original rims though.

And no grip, either.

I'd rather drive worn out Michelins than any other new tire.

i have had Smart-car tires upfront on my lowered matblack 2cv, they were 175/60/15 i believe, and i fitted them on standard 2cv rims, i just had to put 2,5bar in them so they didn't roll in corners. worked great, though.
