I got more info regarding the latest 'issue'....
I will not mention names but apparently this person was trying to take credits for all the research done.... This really pissed me off....
Why?
I am rebuilding this car because I was intrigued by the achievements and history, not knowing that the real history is totally different than we took for granted for all those years. Apparently this history has some paralels to what's happening now: Barbot took all the palmares but the real hero/builder was Vinatier Sr....., have you ever read something about his ingeniousity and the work he'd done? Nope!
This car/project is not just a 'replica'. It is researched and built according to the specs of 1951/1953, with all the innovations, tricks, flaws, dents and so on that came with it. The car represents the marvels of French engineering in the 50s so I don't want to take credits, I just want to put things straight.......
So what to do now?
As noticed there are a lot of people who really want to follow the process (thank you for your kind replies regarding this topic and my son) and after some good thinking I made the decision to proceed with the updates . I made some changes and will post just general info/updates because I just cannot leave you all behind with the feeling that 'somebody' is just fucking-up a hobby we all love..... So please stay tuned!
P.s.
I really admire all the things you do on your own rides, I am amazed by the skills you all show and I respect (and share) the feeling of being nonconformistic (live is too beautiful to be stuck in the harness of equality), so keep this forum alive and post your photos & stories with a link to this place. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge (Einstein) |

I have the same issues as you.. People copied my (2cv) videos I put on youtube, putting their names under it and even worse they are earning money with them now......
I've made my own electronic ignition, people tried to copy it...
(Take a look at 123.. how many times is that copied)...
So this is nothing new..
Take a look at the bright sight (as I do).. and see it as a compliment that people are copying your stuff..
You have learned a lot doing all this research and building this car with your own hands... nobody will steal this from you ever...
I hope you still reconsider showing it (finshed or not) at the ICCCR.. For me it would be the highlith of the show......
May the force be with you (and your family).... _________________ 2cv running on LPG is cheaper |

Thanks for your kind words. Like you I"ve been in the 'copyist' situation several times before.
In fact I am constantly dealing with those crooks on the business level (I am a founder of a techie startup) and noticing it also happens in the hobby scene just make my nerves going nuts...
I will not show the Barbot on the world meeting, in fact I will be in Denmark at the time the event will be held. But I made a promise to Etienne Muslin some 7 years ago and I will keep my promise. He (Etienne that is) will be the first to make a photoshoot and to write an article about the car for his magazine.
Furthermore I made an agreement to the EEEC to put the car on display at the next Citromobile..... They helped me a lot with tech-info and parts so the EEEC deserves this more than any other.
I think this will work for us all....
Currently the body of the Barbot is almost ready for sanding and painting so I will post a pic of the painted bodyparts soon!!! _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge (Einstein) |

Now this is great news to hear....... and it all sounds (more then) fair to me..
Great to see you are still focused after all these years of R&D...

Hi Meeuw, I can't wait to see your Barbot in real life at the EEEC, I will for sure have to go, just to see it. Remember that there are a lot of copy cats trying to create some kind of look alike Barbot, but they are al based on a original 2cv chassis and not the modified chassis.
I have not been on the forum for some time now and firts thing I read is your topic, it always put a smile on my face to know you are recreating this beautiful peace of 2cv engineering. Keep it up, can't wait to see the blue paint.
Did you manage to create the canvas covers? _________________ 2CV, with Visa turbo charged |

@ Backfire,
I know how to recreate the canvas 'tonneau', In fact it is quite an easy job to do now the setup/shape of the car is determined....
For the rest:
I had made a can of primer for another project and then my small compressor got stuck.... So what to do with the paint? Just do a quick brush over on already prepared bodywork....
Just a basecoat, this will be sanded down again, prepped and after a light spray of primer it will be sufficient enough for finishing with Nitro-cellulose paint.... Just like in the 50's...
Could not stand the fact my small compressor was broken down, and wanted to test the new HVLP spraygun I bought a while ago....... So yesterday I fired up the big one and a small coat of satin black was applied on the parts that were prepared already.
Again this will be sanded again in order to get the final layer of satin black Nitro-cellulose paint.
If you ask yourself why the body is not as straight/prepped as possible? I want to rebuild the car to as the Barbot would be in 1953. So all the dents, misfits, and welding spots will remain visible. Please remember it is a rebuild to original standards, not a proof of 'sculpturing with bodyfiller'....
