Forgot to post an update....

Made the enclosure for the dials

Did some pre-fitting of the headlight....

And partially welded the B-pillar and quarterpanel. Still bolted and not welded onto the C-pillar it shows a more than expected strength.

It has been a while without any update, but I'm still working on the Barbot.

A few weeks ago I've roughly welded the most of the rear end of the body and checked the weight of the entire car (so I can make an estimate of the total weight, the horsepower and to calculate the final HP/Kg/Performance ratio).

What do you think about a completed car with approx. 15Hp and less than 350Kg's? Rolling Eyes

It gives an estimated performance that is equal to a normal 602cc CV......

And a lot of 'food' for a next project: Wha'bout a (partly carbon/aluminium bodied) 2CV with a VGS big bore engine, multipoint injection and an Aisin 500 supercharger????????

Still have those parts and it makes a 300Hp+ car per tonne (1000Kg's)!!!!! The gearbox will break, but a conversion to rear driven 2CV with an AlfaRomeo gearbox can be an option.... Eats a Porsche for breakfast!!!

FYI: The total (baremetal) car now weights 275Kg's without seating, lights, fuel tank, bumpers etc... Won't be more than 75Kg's more when finished...

Here are some pics:

C pillar

Tail is needing some adjustment, metal bends due to some stress caused by welding

Nice 3 medallion rear plate.

An update on the work I've done yesterday.

Welded the rear panel to the rear section of the car. Nothing more but tonight I've made some pics with some fabric as a sort of tonneau cover. It finally begins to look like a car Wink

Copper brazing and Tin/Lead finishing it will be Laughing

It's oldskool and shows respect to the craftmanship of the original build.

P.s. not all dents will be removed. there are some dents clearly visible on the original pictures (caused by the building method). I have had the same issues and decided to keep those dents also.

Yesterday I've started with some lead filling.... So at first it will be all shiny metal Very Happy

The basic idea is to rebuild the car according to how it was built in the 50's. So lead loading/lead filling is, next to copper brazing, the only way to smoothen the body of the Barbot.

It is really a difficult job to do and I have an insane amount of respect to those who master these skills!!! I hope I'll learn this by practice Razz

Started shaving.... Need a bigger file to get rid of the big blobs...

Original A type doors have a spot welded frame. Because the doors are shortened in height by some cm's I've had to rebuild this again. To close all the gaps and welds nicely, some lead is applied to the corners.

You're saving heritage man!

@ fnqvmuch, thanks for the link. Great to see this in action!!! It is a must see movie on Youtube Very Happy

Today Filip van Gool of VGS visited me to see the Barbot. As he is doing really great work on his VGS engines and his own project (which is i.m.o. stunning in looks, quality and performance) I wanted to show him the car outside of the garage. So here are the pics of the first time outside Laughing
