At first I was like 'wtf glue! That's more ghetto than rivets' then I realised it must be another one of your VW scene references for welding. Cool

Nice work.

I think that Swamp will thank you if you get hold of some zintec sheet. instead of galvanized, for making up any infill parts.

The former can be welded 'as is' whereas the latter needs to have the zinc coating ground off prior to welding...

Right my lovelies...
I'm trying to get my welding Mojo back (it would be kinda handy as i have much to do) so be gentle, I am fully aware some of it looks a bit agricultural.
The good news is all this will be hidden when I do the top panel. and there are also these wonderful things called grinders to tickle the rest

The inner is starting to take shape and It now has some edges to weld up to (Still more to cut back on the edge where the seal goes mind)
I made a new internal strengthening peice (The U section bit) and the bulkhead is starting to take shape too.

You may be wondering why some of it is tacked and not seamed... Good question.
Well It is awaiting my special guest to surface on saturday to do a neater job on the more showy bits.

Some say he does not know the meaning of impossable, and some say his hands have built in welding clamps.

All we know is...

A few weeks back I spent the last day of my Holiday realigning hinges so things worked I needed to do it to make sure that eveything ended up where it was supposed to be.
Time for a real update though.
I have not been doing much for various reasons , shite weather and working in a flappy tent, having a stomach bug, work being a bit busy and feeling the need to spend a bit more quality time at home.
anyway Ami got pushed to the back for a bit, however things are still happening just a bit s l o w e r
So i started by pushing the car over to get to the other side with more space.
and then i took the door off, not a difficult task as it had very little holding it up there bar the door lock.

I then cut a bit of a hole in the floor where the footboard is (was before rust got to it) double skinned

After that I had a look at what was left of the A Pillar...Hmmm not much really

Note my seamless temporary top hinge repair with a bit of old wardrobe and a couple of wood screws.

Seamseal pidgeonshit weld and rust abound.
It seems that the seamseal has caused things to rot along the seams as opposed to protecting them for some reason

The inner A panel going up towards the dash has split from its welds along where it meets the pedal panel
After the seam sealant was pulled away it came loose.
So after the 2 selftappers I put in were removed and a little slice was taken from the outer A panel... This lot came off in my hand without a fight
Leaving me this is a sort of datum to work from, (so it will be staying for now while I measure and make bits)

So at the end of play today I have nearly finished making an inner to replace the bit thats fallen off, it still needs fettling though

Obviously it is not something I can afford to rush and before I can go any further I need to adjust the other front wing for fit (A Good Reference point so the bonnet aligns up) and then take the wing on this side off.

The Pile of dead metal is also getting bigger
