|

Guys can you help???
I need to get my hands on a good gearbox to fit in my kubel when i take the engine out for a rebuild.
The thing is, i want to fit one with a higher differential ratio so that the engine revs higher in top gear.
This is because of the larger tyres i have fitted, i want to give the engine a better chance on steep hills.
Someone has suggested an AZU gearbox......
Is this correct?
Am i looking for an AZU box or one from another model????
Ive also been told that i can drill and thread the casing to fit calipers instead of drum brakes. Is this also true??
My Kubel currently has a standard 602cc engine with 2cv6 gearbox.
Any help you can give me guys would be appreciated. _________________ If it works ok, "LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE". |

Tony,
AZU Series B from 1972 onwards, which was when the 435cc engine was first used in the 250 camionettes.
It's the same gearbox as used in the 2CV 4 and Dyane 4, but I'd doubt whether the casing would have the bosses for mounting disc brakes, so swapping into a disc brake type casing would involve resetting the depth of mesh of the pinion and crownwheel, also adjusting the backlash on the CW&P.
The pinion and crownwheel set ( aka final drive?) are 8/33 teeth, the same as in the later 602 gearboxes, so it's the gearbox ratios which produce the lower gearing.
Note that the (potential) top speed may well be lower than with the 435 engine (downhill ), since those 'short stroke' 435 engines top out at over 6,750 rpm, compared to 5,750 rpm for the 602s...

now that's informative
I know of a 435 gearbox, but it's not mine so you'll have to pay the owner for it, and then there's the issue of getting it to you!

By input shaft..:
2cv4, 435cc
AMI8
2cv6, older type
2cv6, late type
The 425cc imput shaft(s) are completely different to these... _________________ Make it today, tomorrow it's probably illegal... |

which is the same as a Dyane6 gearbox, until the last models switched to a 'long spline' input shaft to suit the diaphragm clutch...

Hi Tony, I've taken quite a few gearboxes apart, and put them back together with new/ used parts. I will check what is possible, I just have a few questions:
does your Kübel have an old, thick flywheel with 3 finger type clutch, or is it already the newer, thinner flywheel with diafragm type clutch?
and has it got disk brakes?
in theory thin flywheel, diafragm clutch and diskbrakes should go together, as well as LHM master brake cylinder.
what size tyres do you have now? 155/80R15??
(did you already ask on the International2cvfriends forum? I guess 4x4 people know what is possible as well!)
greetzzzzzzzzzzzz

you could also put in a visa engine or big bore kit, then the gearboxratio would be perfect as it is! if you have to rebuilt your engine anyway....

Do 2cv4 gear ratios and final drive fit into 2cv6 case?
HArley | Yes, thats what is done on Barbour kit as well.

Ok guys thanks for ALL your help.
As ive got to rebuild the engine, does anyone have a link to a website that sells big bore kits that actually work and dont seize up??
It might be the better way to go to acheive more torque and higher road speed!
Cheers, Tony. _________________ If it works ok, "LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE". |
