today i went to the workshop again and worked on the pickup.

i build the basic frame for the bed.
i tried to follow original lines. the top of the frame flows with the trim on the doors, the trim will continue on the bed.
i definitive made the tailgate slanted, it stand flatter than on regular 2cv, but still has same angel as back of the rear fender.

as the body is channeled, and the floor of the bed is at a 'regular' height, this is gonna be the most inpractical pick up ever build.
the sides are only 30 cm high.
i thought of not using the original plastic fueltank and use a AK-style tank that would be visible in the bed. then i could make the floor maybe 4 cm lower, but that ment even more work and even less practicality.

further, i'm planning to use a roof of a 2cv for covering the bed. also i want to use 4 red ak400 lights. maybe frenched in the tailgate, or placed beneath/under it.

i also bought a registration of an older 2CV, so i can drive with old-style blue plates instead of the ugly large yellow ones that are common in holland. and i found a steering wheel and 2 japanese style mirrors! i really like these mirrors but i'm not sure if they will fit. maybe on the hood? or on the fenders? or keep em for a future project?

anyway, pics!

closed up the turnsignals. the blinkers will be up high, on the sides of the cabin.
also added a older pic which shows how the fender fits over the wheel. the wheel will hit the top and the front at the same point. i'm thinking about buying uprated (stiffer) springs from ECAS as there is minimum space for travel of the wheel. ecspecially in the front.
smart tyres could help to.

Everybody remember with those "chrome" & all metallic powder coats,
that they dont last outdoor use very well. You wash layer with metal flakes
off very quick and then you just have base layer of paint, which in chrome
coat is dark grey. So if using these you need to cover it with powder clear
coat, which looses a bit of effect.

Black is new "Rock'a'billy Red" Wink

The silver flake job on my Guzzi took 12 layers of clearcoat to build an even surface - it has held perfectly for over 10 years, but you don´t want to chip the paint - difficult to repair.

have you got a photo of that 14-layer paintjob marcusj? i'm curious.

past few days i have been searching and ordering some parts for the dashboard:

as i cannot use a normal ignition lock, i'm using a key-switch and starter button.
the circuit-breaker (red thing) is for extra safety as it will not have the regular steering column lock.
i collected a couple of old switches, old warning lights. also 2 old speedometers. i'm trying to put the background of an earlier one (with horizontal lines) on a newer one (which goes to 120 kp/h).
and a foot switch for high beam, so you can switch to high beam even if you're going round a corner full throttle and you need two hand on the steering wheel Very Happy

work is still in progress... although i did'nt do that much last weeks.

i have been working on my dashboard and on the rear end of the car.

i made a panel for the lights and numberplate, made a tailgate with two hinges from the front doors.
i still have to work out a mecanism to use the normal handle to shut it though.
here you can see how the AK-light fit, they are tucked under the bootlid a little bit. i used the plastic cups from the front indicators to sort of 'french' them. finish it in black or another contrasting color?

yesterday i got this idea; to use this rear section of the 2CV on both sides. i think it look cool but this means an aweful lot of extra panel work. so tell me what you think, i might also make something that resembles this shape.

little update:

worked on the dash a bit:

got the rear fenders in place:

front wheel in these pictures is fitted with a 135/65 tyre. i got 2 widened wheels for the back of the car, but those are not in the pic.
height of the car is how i hope to be driving Very Happy

i know it's sitting on a pallet, but remember that i will swap this body to the 2CV which is my daily driver now.

and yes bjorn, the fenders will stay this way.
i'm still strugling with the idea i posted above though. to use a tailpiece of the 2cv on both sides of the gate. i like the line that it creates, but i'm not sure how to weld it and finish it off.
and i got hold of a nice rusty army-style fuel tank that will be placed on the sides, between the the cab and fender.

an update in pictures:

roughly cut out the rear window, cleaned the rear fenders, made brackets for a horizontal piece on the bed:

did some more work on the interior, fitted the steering wheel. the aluminium pieces will eventually be revited to the car. i hope to find some more neat bolts for the steering wheel....

sunvisor, will also be revited

this is where my spare fuel tank will go. i'll connect it to the tank so i can put the fuel in here! gives 5 liter extra capacity

fashioned two joints from 2 front-door hinges, and made a system to open and close the gate by using the original grip.
