Now, custom cars and engines have always gone hand in hand.
What are the alternatives to GSA and BMW engines. There must be some exciting other engines from small boats, airplanes, motorcycles, generators and older cars.
There must be something interesting out there.

Found these.

I know that some Ural-owners put 2cv-enigines in their bikes becourse of the poor reliability of the Ural-engines... Maybe not a good idea to put an Ural-one in your 2cv?

Has really did not plan to mount a Russian engine in my 2CV as it also is heavy. But I like the cylinder heads much.

But it could just be fun to find out what alternatives there are.

The objectives are indeed about: no more than 60kg. least 30Hp. and preferably air cooled.
And it can be in the engine compartment, even when the body has been lowered

thread titled Totota Sports 800 - Panhard engine?
was recently discussing something that might more closely fit your specification; with a picture from wikipedia showing 1961_Toyota_U_Type_engine
O/T - but i loved A/C motors from toyota buses being used for little Bali-harleys;

Daf made some great engines as well, but only 4750 RPM, but up to 46HP for latest versions.

guzzi engine works well! already saw a three-wheeler with guzzi engine.
a time ago there was a german guy who made adapter-plates to fit on gsa gearbox. but he stopped making them last year!
300€

i've also heard that ural/dnepr engines are not reliable! no good idea!

harley-engine would be interesting. :) but expensive Sad
