Busy remeasuring the chassis and bodywork I stumbeled upon a funny thing. Mayebe somebody can help me with it.....
As a start:
The chassis of the Barbot is shortened by 25cm, this is a commonly known fact by now.
Also the body is channeled over the chassis and the suspesion is lowered, aka dropping the car.
The thesis:
If you lower the car the suspension arms will move forward and backward. This will increase the wheelbase.
The funny thing:
Tonight I was working on the car and one of the items I do frequently is taking measurements of almost everything (execpt the wheelbase ). But tonight I did.
What I found out is that the wheelbase looks like 230cm! Untill now I have not used the supsionsion arms but it is only 7cm's less than the original wheelbase.
The question:
Does anyone have the exact dimensions of the suspension arms?
Why?
If the wheelbase is exactly the same then I don't need to get a verry expensive Vehicel Approval. (I just need to move the central tubes a bit backward and forward as written earlier). The other thing is that (if this is correct) I am finally getting a grip on how Barbot's thoughts were when he was buidling the car...............
Any, constructive, help is welcome! _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge (Einstein) |

A little update on the project.
Side panels behind the doors are reconstructed. I have chosen the design of the first Barbot so the car will be the number 80 version.
A good rearbody is also aquired and I will start rebuilding the car as soon as I collected this part.
Furthermore I have discovered that the second car is based on a car wich was sold new in may or june of 1952. Up till now I cannot determine if the car is based on a A or an AU chassis but the licensplate is verry resourcefull. The data comes from the official French Ministery of Traffic, so it has to be correct
I also obtained the adress of Jean Vinatier! It is not a sign of good behaviour to step up to his frontdoor but it is always nice to know
Next month I will be in Asia so the next update (with pictures) will be in december. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge (Einstein) |
