Hello everybody!

I have been a visitor on this forum for a while now and im enjoying it.
At the moment i dont have a 2cv... Im expanding my horizons from slammed vws.
At least its aircooled! Laughing

Im trying to find an early 2cv but all the ones for sale in England at decent prices are from the 80's.... Am i still welcome if im late style? Confused

I hope to slam and channel one when i have enough money.
I just have few questions that i cant seem to find the answers to-
Can i get the chassis on the floor by just winding the rods out and welding in extensions and also turning the kinpin angle?
Im thinking 13" wheels will help too.
Or do i have to channel it?

Cheers!

getting the chassis on the floor is no problem, getting the body on the floor requires channeling job.

Cool.

So looking at the Snail picture up at the top there, the dark green one has its chassis on the floor pretty much?
And the one on the left (on air?) is channelled.

This is about as low as you can go practically without channeling.

That's on race springs, turned kingpin angle and soon to have very hard shocks. It doesn't hit the floor too much.

That's a pretty cool Bamboo, Russ. Looks like it's almost ready to participate the next british 2cv racing season. Wink

How far is this from the ground? What's stopping it go any further?

Im not bothered about practicallity Laughing ive got a 73 vw type 3 that im wearing holes in the floorpan going over speedbumps.

Do i need to buy anything to do a channelling?

What's the optimum amount for narrowing the front?

Sorry for all the questions Shocked

Hi

what stops it from going lower is the chassis.

If you channel a 2cv 5 inches (the thickness of the chassis) it will be 5 inches lower than a non channeled 2cv with same chassis/road clearance.

My car is 6,5-7 cm narrowed and it seems to be quite a good compromise. Some guys have done more, no idea how it reacts.

Don't forget that you can't go in as much as a Vw cause the wheels soon hit the rocker covers Laughing

If you channel a 2cv you will ideally need to buy much harder springs and shocks.

Don't forget that loads of stuff needs modifying (steering column, gear shift, engine ancillaries, bumper struts etc)

check out mine or acalex's topics in the recent ones, it will give you an idea of some options to take on how to do it.

It's super easy if you've already done a bit of car welding, just time consuming.

That car is about 30mm away from hitting the floor, it rides very well considering (better than some 'normal' cars I've driven) you can make it hit the ground easily if you drive it places when it'll obviously ground, speed bumps, cat's eyes, the white lines in the road, that kind of thing, but as long as you remember it's this low it's fine. I'm hoping to take it to Spa this year, so by all means come along and have a look!

I've never channeled a car so can't obviously comment on how they work compared to a conventional one, but as JoZeFs allready said, plenty of folk on here can help you there.
