@ Etienne & Olli,

Please PM me with your email adress. I'll send you some interesting stuff tonight.....

Got a movie of the original car and also a movie of the Bruno Viet replica at last years Rosalie event. Both are taken at Monthlery. They both 'bounce' on the track but I do think the Barbot is more gentle.

Maybe you'll spot the differences...

One week ago I drove an 59 AZ with only 13 000 km (almost brand new so)... The suspension was incredibly soft. Compare to that, my 2cv6 (with 210 000km) was hard like a piece of wood Laughing ).
But for sure for a replica, it's not the most important. But Barbot really thought his car, and I really would like all the tech mods! Wink

I would love to see tha movie! Shocked

Wheels from a Renault Juvaquatre look like a very good option to me. The Barbot wheels have 15 holes, those from the Juvaquatre have 14. Nobody would notice the difference and it's way better than any wheel from a Traction, GS, etc ...

More about dimensions etc. -> http://juvaquatre.free.fr/evolution2.htm

Nice Firestone's on the A, Joseph! This Kleber Colombes 125x400 was for sale some time ago, looked nice as well.

@ Sam,

Great find! The rims of a Rosengart are verry difficult to find and this is a good substitute. The center (hub) gives me also the freedom to modify Very Happy

The Juvaquatre site also shows clearly the differences in diameter. I have to look closely if I get my hands on these rims. I'm surely gonna look after them....

Some posts ago I wrote something about my project: The reproduction of the famous 2cv Barbot Speciale.

Between then and now I've done a lot of research and sourced the world for parts. Now, on the brink of the start of the project I am happy to show you some of the results.

Recently I have aquired the papers and tags of an 53 AU that will form the base of the car and I also managed to find exact the same steering wheel Barbot used on his original racer; A Quillery 'Viraflex' with 42cm diameter. Furthermore I've made a lot of 3d files that enables me to reconstruct the original build of the car.

Enclosed you'll find some raw renderings. Note the shortening of the body/chassis on the images....... You'll see that an original chassis sticks out by 25cm.

Any info regarding this car is verry helpfull!

Sounds kind of interesting, are you aiming at an exact replica? If so I hope you end up with something closer to the original when it comes to the exterior shape, the converted cars I have seen so fare have not nailed the look in detail. (or perhaps I am glorifying the Barbot styling in my mind?)
Like this one:

Or this:

Keep up the high ambitionlevel!

Hej Hjulius,

I'm aiming @ an almost exact replica and the exterior must be even better than Norev did with their model car.....

The only alteration will be the chasisnumber (I just can't get my hands on a '51 2cvA Crying or Very sad )

The MWR was recently for sale but it is a far cry from the original. The one that comes up to an acceptable standard is the one Bruno Viet and his sons have build.

Oh, and you're not glorifying at all Laughing

I have some good original pics of the Barbot I should share !

What about the colour ?
Why does everybody choose this water closet blue ?

I'm still waiting to see a color pic of the original Barbot 2 CV. And the only thing I've heard was that an old mechanical said once this 2 CV was some kind of blue...

Share! Very Happy
I have been thinking about that blue myself... some other Yacco cars has a darker blue, the traditional French racing colour seems to be any kind of blue, with variation between the Bugatti baby-blue and the darker Citroëns and Renaults for example...

Oh Etienne! If you would like to share the pics you will make me verry happy ! Very Happy

I believe the original color is not 'korn blue' but more a harder tone of blue. If you look at the original fullcolor poster you can see it looks more a Pantone 285 or 286 (don't know the RAL number)....

I think the only person who knows is the famous Jean Vinatier (if he still lives).

@ Yellowpickup,

4919 PK 75. That's a Paris region car I believe. The circuit Linas Monthlery is situated a few Km's south of Paris but (looking at the style of the number on the bonnet and door) I do think this is a car used for the road rallies they tend to organise regularly back in the 50's. (See the DVD: 2cv, un art de Vivre).

The original poster:

Not very smart to choose a colour because it's on a poster. If you see the original Barbot pictures you can clearly see it has a bright colour and not the blue you suggest.

I think a replica shouldn't be all shiny and perfect. Again, on the pictures you see it doesn't shine and that it's not a perfect build.

Replica's are nice but lack character because they simply don't have an historical background and they aren't being used like the original one was.

Good luck!

Yannick,

I've used forensic software to remeasure the car. One of those packages also reconstructs bad images and video's. It's laboratorystuff and works verry well.

The color as I mentioned earlier is not korn blue and not the hard blue on the poster but more like the Pantone colors I've mentioned. But it is not as pale as most people think.

I think you'll agree that this color was not original in the 50's and therefore the car must be painted once........ and I haven't seen a newly painted car that looks like crap..... (or it must be my first 2cv that I sprayed myself Laughing )

Please bear in mind that the bodyshell is built by the father of Jean Vinatier who used to have a bodyshop at 3, rue Etienne Dolet in Kremlin-Bicêtre (Val de Marne). Vinatier also modified more famous French cars (http://jide-scora.fr/Atla.html) and he was a reknown 'carossier'. On the other side Barbot was a verry smart engineer with a science degree who wouldn't take NO for an answer....

I've noticed some bubbly parts on the bodywork on some pictures, you're right, but generally the car is build verry well but 'aged by use'. As an example take a look at the bonnet; this is a well fabricated piece of craftmenship with piping on the ends to avoid bending. They spend a year to modify the original car which was registrated in 51 and started racing when they entered the Bol 'd or in 1952! As a matter of fact it was almost a brandnew car when they entered racing....

Bol 'd Or 1952

Monthlery 1953 (Car is resprayed and bonnet is modified)

But I strongly agree with you about the way the car is build and the purpose of it..... I will not forget that and I will use the car for racing and rallying. To be honest, the circuit-park Zandvoort racetrack is only 1 Km away from my frontdoor Wink

Please don't worry...... I will build the car the way it exactly was and will use the car accordingly.

'm glad you take the time for some serious research. People don't seem to understand that a 1985 2cv6 spécial convertible with Yacco stickers isn't a Barbot. It wasn't a fun car, it was a serious race car. Putting a Visa engine in it for example completely ruins the 1950's spirit of the car which is so important. The time people just converted any car to any kind of race car, simply great!
