I am playing around with some ideas and i am checking out if i can install a folding roof that is also used on a DS or a VW beetle ragtop. Any ideas or tips where to get my hands on them are greatly appreciated.

Great idea, but (I think) very difficult to built.
Maybe you should cut out and weld in the roof of a ragtop (damaged, sloop Cool ) Renault Twingo.

It may look cool, but from my experiance the slider system in such a roof is very fragile. It is not without a reason I'm afraid that most twingo's come with such a roof. So from that point of view you better stick to original.

I am willing to investigate this option, i had the VW beetle ragtop in mind, the Twingo ragtop and perhaps those that are put on DS. But the 2cv has a much bigger and rounder arc so i will have to see how to fit it well. I do think if i can find a folding roof as big as the original roof (900mm wide and all the way to the back) it will look great and it is much more useful. you can open it with 1 hinge in the middle and slide it open any way you want and fix it in that position.

It's worth investigating, although i know i will probably have to create the sliding mechanism myself.

a friend of mine has a Picasso with such a roof, in that case you'd even have a Citroën roof Wink. This roof is probably more curved than the Twingo-one

Broblem with twingo and beetle roof could be that they are much smaller
than 2cv´s. 2cv is quite boxy design and roof is as wide as rest of body.
At least in "modern" cars roofs go much smaller than body of car. Also
finding abandoned ragtop vw could be hard. Those vw guys are after
those roofs too. I think only good looking result could be fully custom
made roof and that makes you many work.

Twingo roof should be wide enough to look good on a 'Hoodride AMI6, though

My mother has such a roof on her twingo.

Well, we cannot say it's waterproof and it has never been ! Rolling Eyes

I doubt that VW ragtops are watertight.

It's much more for the looks than the practical aspect of things; like a lot of things in car customising

I agree with Olli, and i figured too that although the width of the ragtops can reach 90cm, the length should be much longer for it to fit the 2cv. The Twingo one is much too straight and short i think, but it can't hurt to look for ways to customize them. Even when i can use the glider rails and modify the rack and canvas.

I will start a project topic when i am ready :)

My father owned a Beetle 1200 ragtop in the sixties. God I hated that car!
I allways wondered why he didn't buy a "real" car.
Neighbours left and right had a DS, both grey with a dark grey roof. Our Volkswagen in yellow in between. The ragtop was waterproof allright!
Now for sale in my home town: http://link.marktplaats.nl/243638221
God, I wished that car would be mine.......
