Yes, those monster custom DSes are for sure a mess! Wink
Sometimes I wonder why people start with a Citroën for their project when it is painfully obvious in the end that's not what they want at all. Wink

My personal opinion is that some car designs deserve to be left pretty much the way they are... The DS is one of those.
There has been many attempts, but I have yet to find a successful one...
The only exception is the original Chapron decapotable, designed by Bertoni him self... but series production, even if limited, does not count!


The 2cv on the other hand really invites to be personalized!
When it comes to how, it's of course all up to personal taste...
In my eyes there is a big difference between refining and modifying.
In thebest examples the core of the car is emhisized by adding, removing and fine-tuning the style, less is more Wink the big, dramatic changes are not nesessarily the best ones... (I think we find some obvious examples of all sorts in this forum!)

I think there is nothing wrong with some flavour from across the Athlantic there!
The American custom car culture has a long and slowly evolving history, this has resulted in a fine tuned world of aesthetics with roots in the very foundation of car design.

As in any evolution there will have to be some mutations on the way to perfection... Rolling Eyes

Yes, I am following this one with great interest! Very Happy
It has a lot of potential for sure, and is still a hydropneumathic front wheel drive car!
Just a shame to use a dull, symmetric Chevy dashboard when the coolest dash on the planet could have been there in stead:


The exterior is not too distant from Bertonis funky old sketches actually... Rolling Eyes

The 1959 Chapron "Le Paris" is quite reminiscent of some of the more flashy customs built in California in the late '50s.

The DS project is progressing, now the chassis and all body panels are completely naked and ready for dry ice- and plastic media blasting...


Back to my roots:
As I mentioned in another thread I am finally about to rescue a -63 2cv from 20 years of rest in my friends garage... Very Happy
Until I can report further progress on that here is a little about another one:
The first 2cv of the family is actually still in the family... (There has been about 30 other Citroëns in the family since then but "Lutetia" is still around.)
We bought her april 22 1976 (When I was 4) so we have had her for more than 30 years.
Total mileage of the car up till today is 62 880 km.
When we boght it , it had been standing in a barn for several years but was in fairly good stand.
1983 we disassambled the car totally and restored it completely. Every single little peace was deisassembled. The restoration was very easy because the car was in a very good stand. But we had to repaint all the bodywork. All worn working parts were changed, for example the break parts, stearing, rubber parts, tyres and such . The canopy had to be replaced because it was too dry. The seat materials and the rubber bands i the seats was also replaced beacause they was also too dry and broken. The material of the seats are not original, but it is very close to the original. Almost same colour and almost same pattern.
But the motor and the gear box is original. Only cleaned and put togther again. Mostly we cleaned all the parts and repainted them. We also spent a lot of time oiling and greasing all the bearings and all moving parts. The brake system was filled with silicone brake fluid. And of course trimming everything in its exact position. The job was worth all effort because the car still moves very well, and is always starting every spring after resting in the garage during the winter.

Motor number 02252882 "AZ" 2CH.
We also have most of the documentation, for example the delivery card of Automobiles Citroen Sweden. We also have all Swedish original broschures, books, owners manual, spare part cataloge and workshop manual from 1959. And the original cover for the front grill...
First registration of the car was may 27 1959.
The car was delivered to the firs buyer june 27 1959 .
At that time all cars for Sweden was built in Belgium, and most of them was sold 1959 or 1960.
In all there was very few 2 CV originally sold in Sweden. (Probaby not more than 50 cars). The Citroen Company only imported 2 CV a few years. Later some 2CV was bought in Europe and imported to Sweden privately.







No cool custom ride but a dear old family member.
...and... yes it was red and white with pink interior from the factory... Rolling Eyes
