yeah, 45 000 each year on technical control and it is every 2 years. So it makes around 90 000 2CV in use.
And it's good to know, cars with collector paper don't go in technical control, so some of these cars are also in use but not in these 90 000...
Estimation is around 400 000 2CV still existing... but hard to really say... maybe 400 000 is too optimistic! _________________ www.super2cv.com

Better hold on to my A in that case
naw, 20K, you're far from it (especially if you're talking about 2cv and derivates)
was it 5 or 6 million total production of 2cvs ? there are bags left of them

I know that there are about 8.000 A-types registered in the Netherlands. That does not include "sleeping" cars, which haven't been used for more than x years, so it might be around 10.000 cars left in Holland.
Rust is a serious issue here, being close to the sea and having a sh*t climate. Storage space for cars is at a premium, as we have a shortage of space in general in the Netherlands. These factors do not count for France, so it may well be an accurate figure.
A-types in reasonable condition are still being imported into the netherlands from france so they are still not that hard to find, I guess. _________________ Don't ask me what I think of you 'cause I might not give the answer that you want me to.

Yeah, every week nearly, there is one or 2 sleeping barnfinds on our big french 2cv Forum, and that's not counting the number of A-Types that are bought or found by the members.
4 examples :
1952 A :
1954 AU :
1954 A :
1959 AZU :
these 2 were found by the same guy
We don't have as many space issues I guess than the netherlands, but nevertheless, the coast, the north west coast and the east of france all have their issues : salt and humdity from the sea and climate, and salt on the roads in winter in the east of france.
This does not aplly so much to central france and south, these are the 2 big nests in france _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

Why are people then bitching so much when someone wants to cut up an early A-type? If you can easily find several untouched examples each week?
I say there are more than enough early A-types in unrestored and restored states around. Time for something new. I applaud your decision to make something special out of your 54. F*ck the factory, customize!
And to upgrade it to a 6 for maximum useability is also a good idea. Those early engines all look great and I like em but not for modern traffic. If you use an early A-type a lot you will wish everyday you had a 6 engine and 'box. Also for parts availability (at least here in Holland) you can get 6 parts at almost every car parts shop but for 4 parts you need to order from a specialist. Not always convenient if it's your daily driver.
Drive it till the wheels come off!!! _________________ Don't ask me what I think of you 'cause I might not give the answer that you want me to.

I guess they're bitching because it's not in their garage and I don't want to give it away to them...
Anyway, you are right, a higher performance car in modern traffic can only be safer.
Wouldn't it been cool though to see a line up of these barnfinds driving to Sweden... (chassis scraping the road, of course ) _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

Haha jealousy is a deadly sin!
Yessir, it would be cool to have a lineup of barnfinds.
I like the "sleeper" concept a lot. An old, beat-up car, dirty and rusty, with a massive engine hidden underneath which will eat you up at the traffic lights and on a mountain road. Like the 2cv AZ super "RUSTY"! _________________ Don't ask me what I think of you 'cause I might not give the answer that you want me to.

The AZ Super "Rusty" has just an 1015cc, 55HP... Even with that "big" engine it's still slow car compare to nowadays cars... _________________ www.super2cv.com |

It's the idea that counts....
But I like the looks up until he added the rustproofing clear. I made the same mistake with my roast duck. Should have left it bare metal. _________________ Don't ask me what I think of you 'cause I might not give the answer that you want me to.

Well if theres that many left then people need to chill the hell out about us 'destroying' rare car, they clearly arent rare! I agree with bart again.
Just one thing, why do all you frenchies hide cars in barns for 20 years? Its better than scrapping, but there seems to be thousands hidden away! was it a gift from the older generation? _________________

Well if I had a barn big enough to store cars in, I would have kept most of my previous rides, as well. Most of them were driven to destruction when I got rid of them anyway. I would have kept them for sentimental reasons. And to make nice barn finds for my children or grandchildren (or someone who will buy my house when I go into the old folks home).
How about this for barn finds:
-rusty 1979 ford escort, gold coloured
-rusty, primer-coloured LHM-leaking 1969 ID20 with glowing red oil-pressure light
-perfectly good metallic grey 1987 Peugeot 305 break
-1984 white Saab 900S coupe with a tree imprint in the front
-1988 CX 25GTI turbo with dodgy electrics and blown head gasket
-1984 red 'n really rusty Honda Prelude 1.8EX with broken fuel pump
-1983 BX16 with lots of dents, worn clutch etc.etc.
-1986 2CV6 burnt to a crisp and rusty like hell (see roast duck)
-1984 white really nice Skoda 130 rapid with third blown head gasket in three months and some serious cooling problems
-1978 Hammerite blue Acadiane pickup without roof, but with rust and bad gearbox and engine
-1991 red BX TRD diesel with black wheels and flames, no problems at all
-1991 silvergrey CX 2.5 diesel break with cracked head
-1987 Acadiane/ Woodyane/Tiki Wagon, still running
-1987 renault 4 TL nothing wrong, just didn't like it.
-1991 Peugeot 205 1.1 For Sale. _________________ Don't ask me what I think of you 'cause I might not give the answer that you want me to.

In 2004, I found that 2CV4 from 1976 if I remember well, in the village where my sister lives. The car is still there, and has only 30 000 km!
