"There are certain bits on 2CVs that really do need to be brought up to date. Apart from the breather, the German track rod adjusters are light years above the Citroen design. I was speaking to a guy last night who is sourcing a ball-joint conversion to get rid of the kingpin. He said someone in the UK is forging new hubs and using Ford balljoints. Sounds interesting, particularly when the new kingpins fall onto the ground because the arm and hub have been refurbished too often."

Has anyone heard of this Kingpin modification before? do the racers use it?

only 2 things i have seen to modify the 2cv kingpin, they welded on a "2nd" swingarm to strenghten the kingpin mount. And, a kinda "baja" solution i have seen in a 2cv crosser, and those are really another way of mounting the wheels to the swingarms.

A bal-baring was used, but they told me there was to much problems with it because of the steering system. It worked, but the maintance problem from the kingpin was replaced by the steering arm mount problem.

I would like to see something like that. Specially because we all ride lower and that wears out the kingpin faster then riding normal height.

Hi Harley,
I don't know anything about these German Track Rod adjusters...
For the front arm, the racers in Belgium and the UK modify standard arms with an upper arm welded to the standard arm and a balljoint to support the top of the hub, just like spookeend describes. Besiders there is a company in the UK that converts standard arms to arms with balljoints http://www.gardnercars.co.uk/
Last but not least a good friend of mine is planning to design completely new front arms for 2cv's with balljoints instead of the kingpin, because there is a need for his 2cv 4x4s and there seems to be a market for them.

I have a set of "Gardner" arms on my offroad 2cv.
They are expensive, but the cost of replacing king-pins is no longer required.
They transform the front suspension, no rattles, etc...
Gardner Cars can also do a lowered set-up.

Bartje is that 4x4 Bart?
