I've been having some trouble connecting a Harley Davidson tachometer. Lots of people have them installed and working great, but mine isn't working.

pics:

I tried connecting it in 2 ways already but it does not want to work:
--------------------------------------------
Yellow - 12V
Orange - the + wire on the coil (signal)
Blue - Ground

I cannot seem to find any wiring diagrams for my model, the only thing i found is an ebay ad saying that mine came from an FXR.

I tried to connect it with a Ground on the casing and the yellow and orange cable as 12V and signal (tried both ways). No response yet..

the + Wire at the coil does not give you any signal!!

you need to put the signal cable to the - cable of your coil!

but i don't know which cable it is at your rev counter!!

good look!

Fester,

If you want a hassle free Tacho you can also use an old Honda motorcycle Tacho and the Speedo pick-up of the front wheel. It's mechanic and you can connect it to your fan.

Attach the Speedo pick-up to the grille, fabricate a connection to the fan and use a long Bowden cable to connect the pick-up to the tacho on your dashboard.

Go to Muts in Soest if you want vintage parts or else go to Leertouwer, also in Soest. Beeing a 'Gooier' you surely know the adress Wink

nearly there!
Orange +12v
blue = ground
yellow = signal...-ve on the coil the one that runs to the points

The case is not the ground on these Tachos
If you have an electronic set up for the ignition then there may be some other way of wiring the signal wire but basically as long as its to the wire that goes on and off it should work.
