This method implies breaking the end eye, but the cost (in time and money) is much reasonable than breaking a rod and having to change all the suspension assembly.

For me the usually told methods to unscrew a suspension rod end eye sometimes doesnt work, heating the end eye may end in a rod shear, and tapping gently the end eye usually is as useful as telling this part a joke.

First i did is to clean the visible part of thread with wire brush, lubricate it and then screw the eye to the end.
Check the length for the threaded part (I always found that is 8cm but better do this and ensure the real lenght)
Unscrew the eye till it get slightly stuck, measure 8cm from the end of the thread and mark on the end eye.
Then saw or grind the eye at this point, this ensures that the rod didnt be damaged.
Screw again the remaining part to the end, and then the rotten and even a healthy part will be shown.
Using a 11x100 die (fine thread not the common for 11mm diameter) clean the rotten part.
Finally clean and lubricate the thread, unscrew the remaining part of the end eye and the work is done, ready to put a new end eye at the cost of only 12€ and 45min work.

Same here,
plus those early rounded eyes/shackles seem to be made from much better quality metal than the copies on sale now.
I've seen one of those which was grooved after not much more than a year's service... Sad
