Hello June. I like your car. May I make a few suggestions?

When you go through the trouble of channeling, why not do the whole 12cms? Almost same amount of work, double the impact.

As for the missing parts, leave the front bumper off and the fuel tank cover must be for sale somewhere. It would be really hard to make such a thing and I think you can buy one for under 50 euros.

As for paint: Maybe make it an early seventies style Mothers of Invention tour-van? Some panels, fades and gold leaf lettering?

June looks quite tall, not sure there would be enough room to put the seat back far enough after that Question

Maybe he doesn't listen to Frank Zappa ? Laughing As long as you don't do a Daniel Guichard Tour van (although that would be more car/style correct 'cause he probably toured alone Laughing) you should be OK

About channelling: I thought 5cm is the messure where you donīt have the trouble with the bonnet and the seat, but it is enough to get a cooler look?

Nice bit of history.

I'd say it's time to make it your car. Olli sure did a nice lettering on his Ex-AZU, but he didn't buy the car off a guy called Dr Pepper Wink

Channeling 12cm implies lots of chassis modifications, as well as the body.

I guess a moderate channeling job allows you to ride low(er) without too many hassles.

I still think channeling is a lot of work for 5cms. There is some extra work involved in going 12cms down but for 5cms you already have the floors, footboard and rear kick up panel cut out. But it's everybody's own choice.

About seating position:You could test fit the seats, just put a board of wood on 12cms blocks on the floor of the car and put the seat in. If you use the rear seat in front and put that back a little, you will be pretty comfortable.

The Burton has a similar seating position that's pretty comfortable for me and I am 1,96 m tall. Laid back and close to the floor, getting in and out requires some effort....

You will have to lower and extend the steering column. You could buy a steering column from a Burton, that will be a good fit.

I don't have pictures of the MOI tourvan but use your imagination, they did.

but the shape of the rear in the AZU doesn't give the spacey seat possibility of a laidback position.

you have the 2 "shelves" on either side that stick out right behind the driver and passenger.

I'm not sure it would be all that possible in a simple "mock up and make" way...

With my 12cm channelling experience, I know how will be my next one !

It will be 6 cm channelled, and the chassis will be modified as well : 6 cm lowered for the front and rear part.
In that way, bumpers will stay at their original location, and it won't look "empty" under the car.

some parts were seperated Wink


Now colour and painting is not the question, but mesuring

and cutting and welding.
Even if i channel only 5cm, it seems that the floor of the back is to deep ? Anyway it is rusty. Pherhaps i cut it out and make a new one and weld it in some cm higher.

Thanks Ebus for the picture -I also will look at your topic now...

From which level its necessary to use the bigger springs?
And it is a good idea to use the old shockabsorber?

One advantage is they neeed no place under the car and i have place for the exhaust.

even with channeling you will have room for the exhaust. it just makes the exhaust go "inside" the body, rather than under the body, since it is still fixed to the floors, and goes alongside the chassis...

I think you should at least try to use AMI8 or Acadiane springs (cheap option if you don't want to/can't buy the "race" springs) it will require small modifications to the floors and such.

I think you should also adapt modern shock absorbers too...

What you show on your picture, it's not shock absorber. That's the "batteur" ! The old shocks absorber are the "frotteur" which are in the arm, where there is the arm bearing.

You should definitely adapt the hydraulic shocks absorber if you plan to you use other springs (what you really should do) !

thanks JoZef and Etienne a lot for this tips.
I though about to buy the floor panels with the space for the bigger springs, so i have the option for the ami8 or Acadiane spring. Now its defenitly that I buy this floorpanels and i look for the springs. And of course now i use the modern chassis suspension system.
