I was just wondering, has anybody got a side view of a 2cv fitted with 13" wheels? Maybe one of the photoshop boys could produce an accurate representation of how it would look. The reason for asking is that, whilst these ultra lowered cars look wicked, there is no way on this earth that it's actually possible to drive a car like the banner car. It's just not steerable with 15" wheels tucked right up under the wings, surely?
With 13" wheels it can be got low and still be driveable, but will it look acceptable and are there any ways to make 13" wheels look bigger than they are, such as painting them black?
Apparently, black painted wheels do have the VISUAL effect of lowering any car.
Come on Olli, work your magic and let us all see how it would look with normal coloured 13" wheels and with black painted 13" wheels, at the same suspension height.

Read this thread: http://snail.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=242

There you find this with 13", and it's not photoshop:

About the driveability....I guess you have 2 choose. Looks or usability. Ofcourse it's not that black and white, it's lots of shades of gray here, if you see my point. A moderate channeling combined with a littlebit of lowering on the suspension can give you a car that looks a bit lower but still has suspension.

Me myself I appreciate the freedom to go everwhere whenever I want. And thats where a 2CV with good suspenison "comes in handy, my hard rocking amigo"(quote Jack Black) Laughing

It's a lot of fun rallying around where other folks in theyre expensive "I work my butt off" -cars just cant go Twisted Evil

Thanks Eirik.
Don't know how I missed that. It seems that 13" might be a bit too small
as the offset has to be too great in order to allow the kingpin to clear the
rim. Maybe 14" is a better idea and with a low profile tyre.
I like the driveability of standard height suspension, just as you do but I CAN appreciate the looks of the lowered cars. There's a compromise out there somewhere! My own car is now gently lowered and the effect is instant in that the car now falls very suddenly onto full lock when reversing and is hard to pull back to straight-ahead. I guess cutting & turning the arms is the way round this but that means there's no way back. If I change my mind and raise the car again, I'll have a car that's really unstable at speed.
You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't!

Can you find so low/narrow 14"s that they actually would be lower than 15-125?

Hi Olli,
Maybe not narrow AND low profile. I guess to get the lower profile you would have to go wider and that brings its own problems with poor turning circle. Tricky!

I agree the steering suffers when lowering. I learned about that cutting and turning the kinpin to readjust the caster, on this forum.

You can get two extra pairs of complete front arms, and modify them. So if you raise the car later, you can change back to stock arms...

That can be an idea for those with the welding skills and equipment. Make up modified arms for sale Wink

Use spare wheel tires

they're narrow and low profile.

Good idea, which I don't want to spoil... but most of those tyres are not made to do more than 80 km/h...

Sorry Wink

Yeah, I had thought about those tyres and for a while the safety speed rating worried me. Then I had a look at the tyres on my car at the moment..... trashed! They've got plenty of tread but it's coming away from the carcass due to old age. If I dare drive on those, why should I have a problem with space-saver spare tyres? I'm only using the car for low speed hooning and driving to work & back and I work in a garage. We've got plenty of these spares kicking about but they're mostly way bigger than 15" because they're for Jaguars.
