Looking for instructions to paint in satin black, to achieve the rat rod black effect I foud this spell: "John Deere Blitz Black paint"

Hello Juan,

Are you using paint gun and compressor or brush or roller or spray can?

If you get your color mixed for you by an automotive paint shop, they can determine the amount of "matt"(from high gloss thru satin to extreme matt) by adding a matting paste. This can be added to any DG colour or to your 2K clear.

Im trying to find the most inexpensive but reliable and diy way to paint in satin black (old black primer imitation), to achive the scheme you can see in my avatar from my yellow 2cv.

This will be my first paint job, so i dont pretend to get perfect results, so maybe roller be fine Laughing

This John Deere Black Blitz seems to be a inexpensive and durable way to get this paint job.

I also see this morning a Renault 9 with the rear part, where the plate is mounted painted in a black satin (I remember some 80' cars with this efect in any part of the body), maybe the reference for the paint is still available from Renault.

And finally, sorry but please translate 2k and DG because im not native english speaker and despite i found some related pages i prefer a first hand explanation, than you so much.

Don't use a roller. If you dont have compressor, use spraycans. You dont need that many just for the fenders and bonnet.

2K is two components. Meaning you have to mix the paint with a hardener or it will not dry. This usually is for clear paint (no colour). DG means direct gloss, is the same as 2K clear, only with color pigment added.

If you are looking for a low-budget approach and it is your first paintjob, I would say clean body panel, degrease with water and dish-washing soap, sand with scotchbrite pad (same green stuff that is on dishwashing sponge backside) and roll it with satin paint for wood. Treat rusty or bare metal parts first with metal primer.

You can buy wood paint at a diy store and despite being made for wood, actually works well on cars, too. You can buy 2-3 litres (enough for the whole car) for under 50 euros.

Thin the paint about 20% with terpentine or thinner and paint it at 20 degrees in a dustfree environment and you will get very satisfactory results.

Few years ago, I painted my 2cv with black mat painting from closest work shop (19,90 euros the 2,5 liters) and electric spray gun... Laughing

It worked fine!

I think that 2 components paint is a must for a car, and i have compresor and gun so no problems with this, lets see what happen.

I painted my WOody with roller and wood paint (also metal body parts) and it lasted for two years summer & winter driving before I repainted it another color. If you do it right you can achieve almost as good a result as a GOOD spray paintjob.

Big advantage when you roll the car is that you don't have to mask everything off.
