just for info really,
if you cant find a stb bar of an 8/super, why not increase the spring rate in the cans, this will mean no roll bar is needed, it works trust me

ps any one got the part number for the red girling shockers??

Hey Champy, that Bijou (or is it Radar?) could be a real cool taildraggin' leadsled.

But seriously, what do these uprated springs cost, for a pair in the front and back? And would you recommend stiffer dampers also?

I have this Woodyane which is 100 pounds heavier than original Acadiane because of the wood frame and floor in the back. The shocks have been lengthened in the back to allow the car to be lowered more. But we can do that again.

Greetings from Tulipland

hi mate
its a bijou, it needs somthing doing with the colour matt black i think with satin black flames? ( just need to find an artist/painter)

the springs are about £38 sterling plus tax each
the only problem here on acad springs is that i dont have the std spring rates, from which to uprate from
but a simple job other than that

AWW nooo !!

Please try something a bit more fancy than flat black Neutral

(No, Yellow with blue scallops isn't an option I'll accept either Laughing )

Dunno, it's a sixties vehicle, why not chuck something on in that spirit ?

No, man a leadsled can only be done in a matt colour with flames. It could turn out to be something like this:

Bring it to Sweden, tell me what colour you want and I'll do it there.

It will look ridiculous without a decent top chop. Black with flames will not turn it into a nice leadsled. Like Jozef said, it should get a nice sixties treatment and nothing radical. Bijou's are pretty rare, would be a waste to turn it into something ugly. Wink

Chop it, flame it, slam it to the ground.

If you chop it, it will be even more rare, there will only be one around!

not to rare as out of 214 made over 160 are still about, so less rare than maybe amis on them numbers
thought about roof chop but with the quailty of the fibreglass a decent job would be hard, tubing it would be easier as i nearly did with my spare bijou

In percentage terms, Ford escort mk4s are rarer than Bijous, enough people will buy them and leave them standard, we are a minority those who want to modify, so why not? who wants to see 160 standard Bijous? one hard as nails modded one aint gonna hurt.

It upsets old people, what more can you ask for?

I'm not saying it shouldn't be modified because it's rare...

I'm just saying that a Bijou with a chopped roof, and "lames" on the bonnet is going to look plain ridiculous...

A Bijou is never going to be a leadsled, and a boring "seen a thousand times on any piece of junk matt black paintjob" isn't going to help... I guess you plan on painting the wheels red, just to make it that tad bit more original... Rolling Eyes

It's more a question of thinking about the best treatment for the car you're planning to modify... look the shapes, at the period of production, what was done to cars at the time (look at the sixties in the US Shocked)

If you know of a complete Bijou shell in decent condition, do let me know, I would love to do something decent with one... Twisted Evil

Unchopped, dropped, gold satin metallic body and shiny black lacquer roof with a touch of red flake....

Just a thought...

But yeah, I guess blackboard paint will really make it a mean looking bad boy car, especially with lames, hell yeah !

Sorry I misunderstood what you meant, I see your point.

Geoffs Bijou needs to be seen in the flesh though, it looks bloody ace as it is! It also looks much lower than it does in the pictures.

No prob. Internet communication is never easy Very Happy

It certainly does look like the most rad Bijou as it is... Shocked and the race engine is just the icing on the cake

Hahaha, exactly why my car is so loud...

@champy: Ok, so if it's fibreglass and rare, make a copy. Or make a copy of the roof. What easier way to chop? You can make yourself 3 or 4 roof pieces to cut up.

@Jozef: All I am saying is that when I see a car like that, with a nice shape, I see possibilities for making a one-off car. And I agree that those ideas can only be good if you see the car in the flesh, see which lines work, enhance them and change the features you don't like. IF I were to change that car, though, the roof will be chopped and it will have lames. I'm just a lame kind of guy, I guess.

But looking only at the past will not make a nice car. For example, the Chevy you posted has all kinds of modifications that weren't even possible in the 60s. Like airbags and satin metallic paint. They didn't even exist then. I like the old style as much as the next guy but you need to add something of your own to make a truly unique car.

Jozef, tell me you are coming to Sweden because we could have long and good discussions about cars, I think.

Well, in some ways this is what this guy has done : a Late fifties inspired mild custom, but with a few touches of our modern times (easy air ride systems), my point being, that you can get a Bijou really low really easily, Geoff has proven that, and has also shown by doing so that it really makes the Bijou look smashing

First metallic paints were on Cadillacs in the late forties and early fifties... (the Matranga Mercury was painted with "gold" colour dust instead of silver)

First Airbag systems also on Cadillac in the late fifties...

I hope I will be there, but can't be sure...
