I am writing this topic for a friend who is too lazy to register on this forum but he is reading along with interest. Until he makes himself known, we will call him Fred.
Fred has bought an Ami Super a few months ago, technically good daily driver with some rust in the body for a ridiculously low amount of money. He has also bought an AZU body (without papers or chassis etc.) and testerday, we finally put one and one together and came up with three.
Fred welded some support beams into the body before I proceeded to cut the floors out.
We also removed the part of the rear chassis legs and finally could fit the body shell over the lowered chassis. The bare chassis sits 12.5 cms from the ground at the lowest point (about where the gearbox support is) and it is raked forward a lot to allow loading the van, as well as leaving the most room under the bonnet.
We fitted the bonnet and removed airfilter, dynamo, fan, cooling housing and ducts and then the carburettor was in the way, so we cut a hole where it sticks through. We will pobably fit a shaker hood. The engine is a 1220 and needs no work (except oil leakage, distributor cap and the usual spark plugs, fresh oil etc.).
We had to remove some of the sides of the bonnet, next to the grille to make room for the camshaft pulleys. The bonnet fits just about. Now we need to do some more "adjusting" of the fenders.
We will try do do as little modifications to the body but it will have closed rear wheel arches (not skirts but complete panels altered) and black Burton wheels and we still have to figure out how to close up the front end with that 4 cylinder under it. But this was enough work for one day (and evening).

Nice project but Jesus how ugly those rear fenders could be.

ok,ok thanks Bart, for forcing me to register and defend myself...
Just for the record, my name is not Fred, it's Tjeerd.
Hey, Olli, what don't you like about the full fenders? looks the bomb if you compare it with the original flared cut out fenders..
Oh yeah, anybody got experience with running a 1220cc without the coolingfan and airducts? _________________ www.customs-classics.nl

Closing the rear fenders made back visually absolutely too heavy and also it
makes it look even more like home made. 2cv has closed bottom line so
silhouette is actually as "heavy", but what makes it different in sedan 2cv is
shape of rear fender, here you will not have any shape. Azu's back - even
as "ugly" it is, it has nice propotions and for sure is made by profecional
designers. This original wheel arch really beautifully shaped and its on its
place. Taking it of rear looses its character and becomes just like carton
box. If you really like it like that, sure go on. I just try to help to make nice looking car.

We like the look of the garden shed fixed to the back of a sawn in half 2Cv body.
Some people may not like that. They are free to say so, as we are free to make it as "ugly" as we want. Style is not a fact, it's an opinion. _________________ Don't ask me what I think of you 'cause I might not give the answer that you want me to.

Yeah, to my mind also you've done one mistake but anyway.
I think a german dude did a 4 cyl 2cv with no fan and cooling ducts.
I think he trailers it to car shows, too

Hey Tjeerd,
You go for those rear wings as you want them. At least it's original and at best, it's right out there.
The only word of caution I would have is that the wheels need to be pretty bold to get away with this.
That is, you should at least have brilliant chrome beauty rings (rim embellishers) or bright red wheels. What little you can see of the rear wheels needs to be bold.

I love how the rear wheels looks in that fender on that pic. The fender wave shape is just perfect, it seems it has been designed for low AZU...

The idea is that the cars sits so low that you'll only see the tire and not the rim.. so no need for a 'bold' wheel or chrome trim. The AZU sits quite high now, because the lift it's on wont go any lower. _________________ www.customs-classics.nl
