it's looking good so far

i'm thinking of doing the same thing myself

but i'm worried about getting the back end right

you can use laminated glass for the sides it's easy to cut to size

Hey Tony,

I looked at your sketch and I made my own. I would like to make this look as though it was a factory prototype. The car is standard from nose until the b-post. After that, the roof continues at the same level. I noticed that you cut your roof "rails" further back. Maybe the roof is already too high there.

The rear door and post are standard too, just like you cut it off. After that, the belt line tapers out into the whole space between third window and rear fender.

The rear fender & bumper are standard as well. Front edge of third window is the same as original but it stretches to a line parallel to the rear hatch. This you could make out of plexiglass (perspex). I did it three years ago and it's still good.

For bumpers, I would fit old, thin ones. Paint the metal black and leave the insert grey/white. The other crucial detail is the side light. It's the only thing that makes the space between the 2nd and 3rd window look OK.

Hello Bart. Yes mate i like what you have done the idea of making a 2cv LOOK like a factory build. I see what you mean about the height of the roof but i am not building it for myself, but for someone else and they have their own ideas what they want from the car. I like the extra side lights on the c post and funny enough i spoke to the owners the other day with exactly the same idea. The side glass will be laminated from a local suplier who has very good prices. They can cut a standard 2cv windscreen in laminated glass for about £15.00 which is well cheap for England. The bumpers are going to be single metal tube type with a towbar out back. Suspension will be slightly lowered with an arse in the air stance to allow for 2 adults 2 children and a shit load of camping gear to be carried. Should be done just after Christmas and will be at the Czech World Meeting in July as will i and some of the guys from my Club.
I've done a lot since those photos were taken and when i get a chance i will post some more on here.

Done some more on the Estate.[img]

This one shows the frame with some cloth stretched over to give an idea of how it will look when its panelled in with steel.[/img]

A close up of the frame from the rear showing what will be the roof rack when i have finished it.[img]

Another view from the rear. It will have a side opening tailgate/door using the 2cv boot handle and lock etc.[/img]

Next job is to finish the roof rack, then start on the panelwork.

When I looked at your sketch, the dimensions weren't right (the fenders were to high and short, the hood was very low, and the back door long) and I had to much time so I made you a sketch based on the blueprint of an 2cv so you can have a better look at the dimensions of the car you're building. I adjusted the coulorscheme a bit because it follows more the lines of the original 2cv.

I really like your idea a lot! Hope it works out really good, and not like the dolly-thing above on this page. Good work so far!

Hi Tony,
Sorry mate but I just can't get revved up about estates. However, the Red Baron in the background there,...that's nice. I love the lateral thinking on making it look low without all that tiresome channelling business and you get original ride quality, no fouling wings. Top idea mate. Don't "back-burner" it for too long. It's just begging for more development.
Brooky.

I dont wanna start fight, but many custom builders in world would make
"channeling" like that if it would not ruin nice body design/propotions.

"Station wagon" looks fine so far. Maybe you should cut original body a bit
more over doors, shape already turns down before cutting.

ps. do you really like those hub... rims on RedBaron Laughing

Olli you old woman Wink .
The hub caps are not staying for much longer.
I'm gonna copy the desert theme at the top of the page and paint it sand colour in a satin finish.
Bumpers, roof rack and wheels(without caps) will be stone chip paint which has tiny flecks of different colours in it and is rough to the touch(hard to describe in words).
Canvas headlamp covers with slits cut in them and the palm tree motif on the sides.
Might take the carpets out and mix some sand with resin and have a real desert floor mat Wink Laughing
