Well I'm off to do the Raid Australia Cool
This will be my first raid and heading into some very isolated parts of OZ which very few get the opportunity to see, let alone enjoy it in a 2cv.
Unfortunately i did not have enough time to take my own car but am riding 'shot gun' with a good friend. I have even convinced him to Tattoo the Snail logo on his raid car Cool
I will do my best to send some pics and updates. I know there are some mad Europeans coming over but i doubt there will be any interesting customs amongst them Rolling Eyes

Cheers
Harley

Hey, i will pass on your regards.

Unfortunately the Raid has not even started and I/we are already in trouble!!!
I am now on the west coast in Perth waiting for my buddy and car to arrive from Canberra. 6hrs out of Canberra the gearbox started to fail (loud noise coming from diff) home he returned and swapped over the gearbox. the next day he set off again and took a shortcut to Broken Hill, got caught in a storm on dirt roads, then an Emu jumped out and cleaned up the front end! He said it was like hitting a feather quilt at speed Shocked

Then the other gearbox gave up!!! he is now crawling across the Nullabor nursing the car into Kalgoorlie where i have another Gearbox to fit on the side of the road. If all goes well we will only be 2 days behind the other 60 cars Very Happy
Just to put this into perspective, Canberra to Broken Hill 925 km – about 12 hours 31 mins. Broken Hill to Kalgoorlie in a lame 2cv 2,267 km – about 2 days
The Raid starts in Kalgoorlie and finishes in Kununarra - This is pretty much the the route we will take. The raid is approximately 4,500km in length consisting of 3,500km of varying surfaces from tracks to bush highways and about 1,000km of blacktop (Sealed Road).
I can't wait to get going! Nothing is going to stop us Twisted Evil Very Happy Shocked Cool Laughing

I have returned... The Raid was Kickass!!! Such an amazing experience that no words or photos can do justice. I hope you may all get the chance to experience it one day.

@ Olli, Yes two Finnish couples with very well prepared cars. Lauri Kivinen who i beleive is a 2cv ice racing champion with a great sense of humour. Weltti Virtanen sends his regards and spoke highly of your work.

@ Kimson, Andreas Belz and Anke also pass on their regards.

Very Happy Two Horses indeed...

80 mile beach...

Sunset on open road.

Big Snail Twisted Evil

Heiko & Jost with his modified Belgian AZU.

It is very sad to have to leave all this

Harley,
stunning scenery in your pictures.
One day, I hope...
Ken
p.s. Did you meet up with any of the following bunch?
Rick Pembro ( the 'gearbox guru' with his orange Acad-Dyane), or Peta Carter with the blue 2CV I prepped for her back in 2000 or my old mate Chris Stuart from Perth in his Grey Charlie?

Hi Ken,

Yes, Rick in his "stretch limmo" dyane and Chris in his grey car were both with us.
Rick spent a fair bit of time under other peoples bonnets helping with wet ignition, adjustig valve clearance........... and rebuilding a gearbox around the campfire at night.

Peta couldn't make it unfortunately, having done a great job of organising the 2004 Raid.

That sounds like typical Rick. Can't stop working under a bonnet or rebuilding a gearbox!!
