what kind of roof-racks fit on a 2cv ?

is this one an original one?

i'm asking because i'm interested in this one.

i got one myself(another one), it fits but if you drive faster than 70 it wheezes ; and i'm not able to open the windows fully.
i will post a pic later.

what experience have you made with roof racks?

roofracks are looking good on some cars, but my experience is that it's very noisy and your topspeed is 5 a 10km/h slower. And it's costs more feul to ride with because of the airodynamics.

I don't understand roofracks. I don't think they look cool at all. When I was young, almost every familycar had one when they went on holiday, to take tents, jars of peanutbutter and sacks of potatoes to countries with strange foods and high temperatures.

Also, it's: "very noisy and topspeed is 5 - 10km/h slower. And it's costs more fuel to ride".

It's not custom. It's definately not hotrod. It seems to me to be Halfords-tuning (buy something useless and stick it on your car).

What's the plus side?

A Resto Cal Beetle must have a roofrack (chrome with wood). It's some sort of law. Laughing

I think it does look cool on hoodride cars but I don't like it on shiny resto-cal ones...

Mine is an universal roofrack (my father used it on his GS in the 80's) and it fits perfect.

i do understand roofracks, if they have a purpose. Like, taking the tent on holliday when you are with four people in the car. But, just for the looks, ok, they may sometimes look cool, but they are riding along useless??

on a beetle, ok, you can't open the roof anyway, but on a 2cv? you wo't be able to roll open the roof, and that is one of the key things to be able to on a warm summer holliday, right?

Coming from the VW scene, which is more guilty than most for putting Form over Function, roof racks are considered an essential accessory by many. Even worse, it's an accessory used to carry other accessories!Rolling Eyes Old petrol cans, Radio Flyers, Cool boxes... Whatever else is in fashion at the moment... Laughing
Buses are the worst offenders... and I have a 3/4 commercial rack mine Embarassed I love the utilitarian 'kombi' look, but of course it has it's drawbacks! On a vehicle which with the aerodynamics of a brick it doesn't exactly help it along. My top speed drops 10mph to 45/50mph with it on, and fully loaded Shocked But I haven't noticed the mpg go down much, still does 30mpg, just takes longer to get there.
Mine doesn't live on the bus, I only use it when we go camping, or helping mates haul parts around. Recently helped a mate move house and had a bed up there.

if you go on holiday for longer than a weekend it could be useful to have one.

off course if you put such a thing on your roof it has to look cool.

I remove it for daily use, but sometimes it's practical!

I think there never was "original" roof rack. I think all are aftermarket pieces?

Here is one from my Azu. I didnt notice any top speed minus.

Aerodynamics of a van are like a brick or (with a roofrack) a brick with a matchbox on top. Not so strange there is no difference. Laughing

I still don't see the point of fitting a roofrack, if you're not using it to carry useful stuff. It's like putting braces on a girl's teeth. Or putting a garden fence on a racehorse.
