Hi

A very simple question :

Any idea whether it is possible or not to fit a Visa/LN/ Gearbox differential into a 2cv/Dyane/AMI Gearbox ???

Cheers

Not sure, but I wouldn't think so. The diff wheels of a visa box are much bigger end stronger. You could probably make it fit by machining the housing here and there, although even then the wheel on the main shaft in the gearbox still won't have the right teethwheel to suit the visa diff.

Why do you want to know, just interested or have you got naughty plans Laughing

Hi

Yeah, a naughty plan... Laughing

Shame it can't be done...

I really want a Gearbox with drum brakes and gearing for 13 inch wheels...

Maybe I can adapt drums to an LN box ? but then the boring bit is that the rear mounting needs looking at... Evil or Very Mad

Wouldn't a early ami6 gearbox do the job, it is long and has big drum brakes. Downside is, they are pretty rare and probably not strong enough for what you want...

Hi

I've got a Dyane box with drums...

Maybe it won't be strong enough... but it could work... but it's a long diff box... won't it be a problem running 13s with it ?

Whether a dyane drum box is strong enough and works with 13inch wheels, depends on the power/torque and related RPM of your engine. Furthermore it obviously depends on what you want your engine combined with driveline to do, quick sprint or maximum top speed? You could have a play with the calculator on the website of Jeroen Cats or make your own calculation in excell or matlab or such, to find out what kind of gear and diff ratios you need for you setup.

That's quite true... I've toyed with Jeroen's calculator a bit... the only thing is I have no idea what output and torque my engine is going to have Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil so with no real idea of output / revs and torque... I can't get precise results... and not every engine is in that list either...

I think it could withstand the power... after all, Etienne saw the guy who bought the OO7 2cvs. They had 1015 cc engines mated to 2cv gearbox... and one of them was used as a daily driver for a few years...

Maybe with competiton oil and stronger bearings it should withstand the power...

Cheers

Hello JoZeF,
why do want drum brakes?
a) Optical reason?
b) Technical papers?
c) DOT equipped car?
d) Better brake force/power?
e)...

@c) Whould be THE argument to take Axel brakes!

What's the base of your modified(?) engine? If it not charged the imrovement of power causes higher revs --> OEM transmission ratio would be fine to start. After a period of testing you could estimate max hp/rpm --> fine tuned gear box.

Ami8/Dyane diff = 3.875
+ Ami8/Dyane 4th = 1.350 --> i=5.23
+ 2CV6 4th = 1.316 --> i=5.10

LN diff = 4.375
+ Ami8/Dyane 4th = 1.350 --> i=5.91
+ 2CV6 4th = 1.316 --> i=5.76
--> even shorter than OEM 2CV6?
Do I misunderstand you?
