That's right, but the grave has a door to push your cars out, and just a few steps for you to go down and work!

This 55 reminds me a certain AMI6...maybe the color.

If you dream of salt flats, take a look at this:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/coop666/collections/72157601470108728/

This is FlickR album of COOP, designer of smoking devil and curvacious hell girls. he is friend of Bobby Green, a belly tank builder and racer.
The logo that Coop created for his friend' tank "the old crow" reminds me something else, wild ducks.

Bobby Green's glog:

Have a good time and remember:
Be safe, have fun, go fast!

With a 652 it's easy.

Regulations for salt lake racing in that category imply that you use original Engine and original capacity

Wink

You can change capacity - just have to use correct block for "Production" class.
I typed up lots of details - but can't post URLs until I've made 5 posts.

So you could bump the motor up to 750cc to run in J/Production.

Hey Clod!

Welcome to forum!

Thanks for this story, it was interesting.
Is that speed record still true!? I think tuned 602 can run whit aerodynamic
Ami body quite easily +100mph (+160km/h). Americans maybe dont have
intrest to drive whit these small engines like 600cc they rather use 600cid. Laughing

-Olli

Keep in mind the elevation at Bonneville - it's not as easy as it looks.

Then add the heat in - the adjusted elevation can almost double . . .
(Sorry folks - just trying to get in 5 posts so I can answer a bunch of Claude's questions.)

I made a folder in 2003 with many datas from the South California Timing Association, and particulary the current records and the general rules. At this time, I noticed that the records in J/PRO could be reach by a 2cv or derivated well made : 92.337 mph (148.6 km/h) at Bonneville by Gerald Davenport on "Dynamic simplicity" in 2001 and 72.838 mph (117.22 km/h) at El Mirage Dry Lake by Bob Jucewic on a car prepared by him and Bob Duncan in may 1993.

I didn't update since april 2003, and those records have been beated : today, Bonneville salt lake and El Mirage dry lake land speed records for J/PRO are owned by Eric Burns, on "Evil Tweety" with 99.299 mph (159.81 km/h) since october 2004 at Bonneville and 85.441 mph (137.5 km/h) since november 2006 at El Mirage. There is no land speed record at Muroc dry lake for J/PRO, and the East Coast Timing Association has record a record in 2006 for J/PRO with the Fleming Flyer driven by Gerald Davenport at 95.238 mph (153.27 km/h) on the concrete of the World War II air base located in Maxton , North Carolina (they don't have dry lakes or salt lakes in this part of U.S !).

Here is Evil tweety, a banal Honda N600 ! :

So, now, what about the rules ?

A vehicle engaged in a land speed record correspond to a class and an engine class.
The car classes are divided in four general categories: Special construction, Vintage, Modified and Production.
The engines of 2cv and derivates (375 cm3 -22.88 ci-, 425 cm3 -25.94 ci-, 435 cm3 -26.55 ci- 602 cm3 -36.74 ci- 652cm3 -39.79 ci- and 1015 cm3 -61.94 ci- for an Ami Super) correspond to three engine classes :
H : 62ci thru 92 ci or I : 46ci thru 61ci (for the Ami super)
J : 31ci thru 45 ci (602cm3 and 652cm3)
K : 30 ci and under (375 cm3, 425 and 435 cm3)

That's all I know about the rules !
I don't really understand all. for example, I don't understand the difference between blown, unblown and supercharged or the difference between gas and fuel...
I found all of this on, the SCTA website. Now, I just have to rebuilt entirely "Soudainement" and find sponsors and money to engaged it at bonneville and El Mirage ! It will be really funny ! I'm sure we could reach the actuals records in J/PRO
Twisted Evil

Banal? Ouch . . . BTW - it's not an N600, it's a Z600.

You can purchase a rule book with out joining SCTA - hit www.scta-bni.org/ and check out the store link. I think they are US $15 or $20 - probably sold out for this year.

The DRLA (Dry Lak Racers Australia) have their rules based on SCTA - download at www.dlra.org.au/docs/dlrarules.pdf - but again - BASED on, not they same (but it's a free way to get more details.)

A good place to read up and ask questions is www.landracing.com/forum/

BTW - a French club is wanting to bring a PT Cruiser some time in the future. Maybe you can team up with them and bring both cars over in a 40' container? (Or will both fit in a 20' one? Wink (20' = 6.096 meters . . . ) They posted at the landracing . com site within the past few months.

For production, you have to use the stock block and valve/port configuration. You can change the transmission and differential, but can't use a quick-change rear-end. (Not as simple with FWD cars . . . ) No blower, supercharger, or turbocharger.

You can also switch to fuel injection, but have to run the supplied gas to race in "production" class.

Keep in mind the elevation is something like 4200' (okay - 1280 meters) and the adjusted elevation can hit 7000' on a hot day (yeah - 2133 meters.)

Can you get one of those 602 cc engines up to 750? You'll need every bit you can get . . .
