Or better, convert a 2cv6 to diesel, high compression head, diesel injectors, turbo, to make it a real 30HP 2 cilinder 599 CC Common Rail Diesel. Whoohaaa.

on my opinion diesel is for pensioners and countrymen :)

a real man drives normal fuel. :)

i don't like the sound and the smell of diesel engines.
off course, in some cases they are more efficient and powerful.

but 2cv and a diesel engine don't match.

in a concentration in france, i already see a 2cv with the 1.7 visa diesel, she have a chassis "hand made" because the engine is very heavy but she 's
approved by the french administration.

I don't understand putting these big engines in 2CV. It is already understeered with the 2 cilinder. Putting in a GSA engine is stretching the limits of the car but a 2CV with a Subaru engine will be a "gimmick car" neither nice nor practical to drive.

Maybe fun in a straight line, until you have to brake or go around a corner.

I say if you want more than 80 hp in a light car, buy a kitcar lotus7 replica. Ugly ones can be had for the price of a decent 2CV.

And converting a 602 to diesel, what's the point (if it can be done, which I doubt)? If you want to drive cheaper, it's much easier to convert it to LPG.

Bart you forget that with diesel engine you can run on recycled french fries oli, sunflower oil etc etc, cheaper then lpg, and when petrol is no more available lpg is also gone, since lpg is a site product. And of course more torque and diesel has more engergy.

Anyways, nice to fool arround, although the 900cc 2 cilinder from fiat with cvt would be a nice engine for 2cv.

And diesel is for cleaning, petrol is for my 2cv Twisted Evil

I have nothing against diesel engines. I had a diesel BX, CX and Xantia, all of which I prefer above the petrol versions.

Diesel engines have several advantages but one of the major drawbacks is that (due to much higher pressures in the combustion chamber) diesel engines are generally 1,5 to 2 times heavier than petrol engines with the same capacity.

I am questioning whether a heavier engine is suitable for 2CV, which I think not.

Also, don;t forget that older diesels may be suitable for "alternative" (bio) fuels, modern diesels with direct injection or common rail injection need expensive modification of injectors, pumps and engine management.

Small comment on last line bart, but I had a Lupo 1.2 TDI all alu engine and running perfectly on alternative fuels. A lot of Lupo drivers drive with alternative fuels. The only real conversion neaded is a pre heater for the winter. But in NL dual tanks are installed because it´s illegal to use alternative fuels, and that´s expensive.

But small diesel engine (for example daihatsu 3 cilinder 1.0) would be great dfor 2cv. Only mayor drawback is the excessive sound production.
