Well if it can be done in a modern VW TDi then I guess you are right. I wouldn't trust it in my modern diesel (if I had one ) for reasons of different viscosity and lubricating qualities. Also, you would have to be pretty sure there are no contaminants or small particles in it, or the injectors would become damaged. Are there any results known from long term users of biofuel in modern diesels?

Anyway, for using a diesel engine in a 2CV, even small one, there is still the question: why?

More torque, yes, but also, lower revs. The daihatsu engine has 60Nm, compared to 2cv's 39 that's a lot but it only runs max. 4600 rpm compared to 6.000 or more in a good 602. With the standard 2Cv or even AmI gearbox, that would mean 90 to 95 kms top speed. I bet the engine would not take running at max rpm for hours too, like the 602 does.

Then you have to build a cooling system and higher weight of engine would mean at least 75kgs extra, if not more.

It would be a lot of work, performance would improve marginally if at all, economics over an LPG 602 would be questionable if you count the cost of conversion from aircooled petrol to watercooled diesel.

welkom to dutch politics

I thought so too, but changed my mind recently, because it appears that current bio fuels cause just as much or even more CO2 during the production, so there is no CO2 gain... Besides for the production of bio fuel agracultural space is used which can also be used for food production, as a result food becomes more expensive (it was in the news just this morning and a local farmer told me without me asking about that...).

So at the end of the day bio fuel is not so green at all Wink Sad

Very Happy Well you got that right, when the engine is build for E85 one should be able to get more power of it because E85 is less likely to knock, because it has a higher octane number. But still not green at the end of the day, although who cares when it's a hotrod Wink Cool Very Happy

I don't understand putting these big engines in 2CV. It is already understeered with the 2 cilinder. Putting in a GSA engine is stretching the limits of the car but a 2CV with a Subaru engine will be a "gimmick car" neither nice nor practical to drive.

Maybe fun in a straight line, until you have to brake or go around a corner.

I say if you want more than 80 hp in a light car, buy a kitcar lotus7 replica. Ugly ones can be had for the price of a decent 2CV.

And converting a 602 to diesel, what's the point (if it can be done, which I doubt)? If you want to drive cheaper, it's much easier to convert it to LPG.

Here is a small Diesel engine

We were talking about that same engine too.. Just that its not really cheap,
I think it was 1600euros.
