Had an idea for changing the rear number plate and tail lamps arrangement on my '84 Special. Remove original square tail lamps and replace with a pair from a BMW 2002. These incorporate stop, tail & indicator lamps & reflectors but no number plate lamps. So...I'm getting French style plates and I thought perhaps I could split them into two sections with a genuine early 2CV number plate lamp (feu de plaque) in between the two sections. The whole lot would be mounted on a sloping panel rather than the original upright panel.
What do we think? Be as blunt as you like because I have other ideas in reserve!
Brooky. Shocked

I'm afraid they'll be a bit too big. I just went to measure those of a 1600 and they are 17cm. (practical when there's one in your street Laughing )

I have some Mk1 Cortinas lamps in home but they are too big.

like 2cv's lamp panel.

And they need some modification because they're originally placed on the corner of the BMW, would look a bit stupid on a flat panel ... Wink

Time for a new idea! Wink

BMW 2002 lamp are not designed for straight surface, so if you wanna
use them you should weld and mold good looking stands for them
(In BMW they are in corners of car). Othervice they will give you "oh, you
made it your self" - look.

If they would be right size they could look soething like this.

Yeah, I wasn't sure whether they had angled backs or not. There's a pair on eBay France but the seller only showed the front face.
Now the other idea was to fit a vintage Lucas number plate box that incorporates tail & number plate lamps but no brake lights or indicators. The idea being to fit a seperate pair of Triumph TR2 brake lights and have high mounted indicators up on the 'C' posts just behind the rear side window.
Brilliant photoshop work Olli. See what you can make of the idea above. The only problem being finding a picture of the Lucas number plate box. Funnily enough, I have one. Exceedingly rare and very vintage looking. The number plate sits inside it behind glass and the tail lights at each end are the old Lucas 'D' lights.

Just bought these lamps off eBay France. At least I hope I've bought them, because the seller did not want to sell outside of France but I was the only bidder so I hope he will agree to sell.
They're quite nice don't you think?

Hi Jozef. Once again, that's very kind of you!
Hmmm..... I forgot to ask the diameter. I'm kind of going on my gut instinct that they aren,t too big. I'm guessing about 10-12 cm although I have no evidence of that whatsoever. maybe I can Google the model number and find something out!
I'll let you know what happens by p.m. Thanks again Jozef.
Brooky.

The diameter is 90mm, perfect! It also looks like they are stop & tail lamps, not just tail lamps and they have number plate lenses in them as well. Even more perfect!
