Right, here's a few pics of my Dads absolutely standard 2CV Special from 1984. My dad died last year and he loved this car. I'd like to do a gentle custom job on it. The list is;
Move front number plate & drill big holes in bonnet lip.
Fit mid sixties grille.
Fit full length fabric hood with small, oval back window.
Change rear number plate aperture to sloping panel like early cars and fit
earlier lights.
Remove & re-site front flashers (inside headlamps or like VW, on top of wings)?
Lower a bit.
Black wheels with shiny silver painted rims.
Remove front bumper over-riders.

Any more ideas anybody?
I don't want to do too much. I can't bear to think that Dad would disapprove.
Brooky.

Sorry about your Dad...

Start to paint the wheels and bumper in shiny black, lower the car and then it will look already a lot better.

This look like crap actually!

Sorry to read that about your dad too.
Please, please, don't use VW indicators... For the rest sounds good to me.

I do not like those holes either! But if you like them, no problem Wink

Hey Brooky!

Sorry to hear about your Dad.. I reckon fitting a 'long' hood & old style number plate panel will look a bit gash TBH. I really don't think stuff like that works on 'modern' 2cv's - unless you decide to fit suicide doors & close the 3rd window etc. Opinions are like arseholes - eveyones got one & that's just mine! Laughing

Some guys have mounted their indicators in the actual headlight, just like on early bugs - not sure how you'd manage come MOT time though?

I'm sure you'll get plenty of ideas & maybe a photoshop or two. Good luck with it & have fun! Wink

For MOT just add extra indicators. No prob. I like the long roof idea.

Thanks for the tips everybody.
I'm a bit worried about putting the indicators inside the headlamps.
if you've ever tried to tell on modern cars when the front indicators are flashing with the headlamps on you'll understand. You just can't tell because there's so much white light coming from the headlamp which is no more than 5cm away from the indicator. A bit dangerous methinks. I can't understand why it's allowed. How about modern car side repeaters fitted in the bumper. Fairly inconspicuous but much more visible when flashing?
I think you're right about the long hood. What am I going to use as a bar table if I lose the boot lid?
How do we feel about stick-on vinyl number plates? Square ones on the front wing & boot lid? No?
Brooky.

What about hanging small indicators under the headlight so they are not obvious until they flash?

I like the holes in the bonnet lip but i think this only really works on cars with the racing front spoiler, on cars with standard bumpers i feel it looks a bit half baked. be careful where you put the number plate aswell, maybe a small one off to one side (like alfa 156) could look good but I cant really envisage it too well, just an idea, again, stick-on plates on the bonner dont look all that great unless on the right car, and on the bootlid, unless you remove the rear panel or smooth it off (see alex channeled car) it copuld look a bit strange with the plate there for no reason. I think Neils right when he says old car styles dont work on a late car unless you can go the whole hog, which is a lot of work and easier to start with an old car in the frst place.

Also, I am sorry to hear about your dad.

The car looks great, a nice colour to use with black wheels and lowering i reckon!

Thanks for all the kind words about my Dad everybody. He had a cracking good innings mind! It was him who got me into 2CVs in the first place. In the early seventies he bought one of a batch of only 12 Belgian built 1966 cars in RIGHT HAND DRIVE that had been destined for the Swedish market but, overnight, Sweden changed from driving on the left, to the right. The only obvious place to send these cars was the UK. His was one of them. Lovely car. Trafficlutch, 435cc. Didn't have suicide doors though. Hubcaps as standard. Inertia front dampers. He called the car 'Dorcas' after an ancient Greek character whose name meant "full of good works". Very appropriate.
He only sold it maybe 4 years ago when it was going to need too much doing for the MOT.
Then he bought this one. Not quite so lovely but it served him very well and it's still sound as a pound with its fresh galvanized chassis.
Anyway....O.k. Rear number plate panel smoothed & sloping. Rear plate mounted on it. Cool circular glass domed tail lamps & indicators. Still un-decided about the front indicators but I'll come up with something. For the number plates I thought I could get a pair of French style plates made (in France) with my number on them. I seem to recall a friend doing this years ago and they looked great on his car!
Brooky.

Well, each to his own Tom, but it's not for me mate. It looks o.k. on that type of custom but I don't think it would look right on my car. I definitely think France has the best deal where number plates are concerned. They can still legally have black & silver/white plates. Holland & the UK have to have these bright yellow bloody things that look awful no matter what you do with them!

In Holland you can buy blue plates... But only if you're car's from before 1979 you can drive them legally... But a lot of 2cv drivers have them on their car.. the most cops won't make a problem of it..

For example:
