Oh Oh Oh! Olli where are you? You have absolutely got to do your photoshop thing on the tail of that Bugatti Atalante on the back of a deuche. Rivets, fin and all. No need for boot access. Just interpret that gorgeous tail man!
Brooky.

A masterpiece of design, for sure.

There is one streamlined car which is in the same pricerange as the 2CV, also from france, with a flat twin engine and designed in 1940. Alas, it was never mass-produced, or we would now be customizing the Mathis:

A little about the car:
The designs for the Mathis 333 started in 1940 in the factory of Ste Mathis, Gennevilliers in total secrecy was Paris was under the occupation. The vehicle was code named VEL 333 which meant Light Economical Car with 3 wheels, 3 seats and 3 litres to the 100km. Under the guidance of Emile Mathis, the "Mathis 333" was designed by Jean Andreau and was powered by a 707cc, flat twin, water-cooled engine that featured separate radiators for each cylinder. Externally the vehicle was very futuristic in appearance for its day. With its aluminum body the car weighed 840 pounds (381kg). The vehicle was presented at the 1946 Paris Motor show but never went into production as it appears apparent that the French Government were not going to authorize production of the vehicle. As a result only 10 vehicles were made.

Note: the factory was bought in 1954 by Citroen after Mathis had gone bankrupt.

Another one of Jean Andreau's designs, based on a Peugeot 402.

A Rolls phantom with Jonckheere (belgian coachbuilder) body.

Another Delage

A Delahaye by Saoutchik:

A Delahaye Shooting break woody streamline wet dream...

Alfa Romeo B.A.T. 5, 7 and 9. These were actually aerodynamic studies, not just styling exercise.

Crazy vehicles! Just great topic!

This is mad:

I've seen some other pic of this car but that's the first one I see from the back.

The maddest thing is to consider it's a Rolls Royce ! Obviously, the Rolls Royce grill for a streamlining style seems to be in contradiction ... No ?

At that time, it was thought that the rear of the car had a bigger effect on wind resistance than the front. Don't ask why. You see many cars that had more or less stock front and a really long, sloping rear.

Another reason was that these cars were delivered as a rolling chassis with radiator and grille fitted.

The rolls actually has round doors as a perfect art deco styling cue:

And the grille is somewhat adapted.
