O come on, 707kms, you can do it in 8 hours. Besides, driving is fun! And coming back from a small holiday with a new paintjob is even more fun! The offer stands, if you feel up to it, let me know.

Hey Bart, if Tim is too lazy to come here for the offer of a lifetime Wink maybe we should meet up some day. To have a coffee and talk about the great paintjob Tim could have had.

We should stop polluting this topic. Send me a PM and we will set it up. When it is all in cans and jugs (dutch saying) we will post an invitation in the "meeting" section.

Just a question on lightening at flywheel for forced induction...
Is it more of an advantage to lighten the flywheel with a force inducted engine (supercharger)???
I remember reading somewhere that a lighter flywheel puts less stress on the engine.
Forced induction will give more torque to maintain hill climb, but is it better to have heavier flywheel to 'absorb/store' that extra power?

Cheers
Harley

Hi Harley,

A flywheel doesn't store much power......... You can demonstrate this by sitting at standstill in the car with engine running, 1st gear, clutch in...
Then rev the engine up to near max...... then as you smoothly let the clutch out, back off the accelerator..... so that you are not delivering any more power from the engine..... see how far the momentum of the flywheel gets you.... not far.

Where a flywheel is useful/necessary is to keep the crank rotation as smooth as possible...... for a nice idle, and for smooth pickup and smooth over run.
A light flywheel will allow for quicker pickup, but at a cost of general smoothness. I wouldn't fiddle with the compromise that the designers chose to make the car comfortable and efficient to drive.
It cannot improve power.
It just makes it so you can rev it up & down rapidly while sitting at the lights with a WRX on one side and a Torana Xu1 on the other........... either way they are going to beat you when it goes green.

If you want to win the battle, it's better to loose weight from the car itself. Some easy ones: lose the back seat, change rear windows with lexan ones, no sound proofing.
