Hi have been thinking for a long time how to build an Air Ride system into a 2cv, it shouldn't be too hard! just expensive! it will cost at least € 800,- if you make a lot of the parts yourself, and if you want some optional parts ( big airtank, bigger compressor, fast reacting valves e.t.c.) better think of €1000,-- to €1200,-- just for the parts! at the moment ist's a bit to much for me, maybe in a year or so (first have to finish my pick-up)
but who is the first one to put an NOS system into a 2cv???

Only white beetle with 17" radar wheels and KG with 17" radar wheels have air ride!
Hi Rusty and welcome here!
Sure it's possible to make air ride, but in general it seems 2cv owners don't spend so much money as beetle owner for their car!
But there is few hydrolic suspension 2cv but when there is no channelling, even when it's low... it's still too high!
Here the air ride suspension on a 2CV :
But it's only to have a stronger suspension (1000 liter of water every days on that 2cv!!) _________________ www.super2cv.com |

Come on lads!!!! I haven't seen any cool Golf 2 in my entire life and this one is just as sad. The worst thing is that it wasn't even a German bloke, but a French one who lost his mind and they have so many cars from there own country which are much better than any Golf....
Cheers, Bart |

Hi Etienne,
i've seen air ride systems like this before (6 wheel red pick-up with trailer on the worldmeeting) but this is not like original 2cv suspension, i was thinking of a system that would maintain original driving comfort (maybe a bit stiffer) and the ability to lower it. you will have to use air bags used for Mc Pherson suspension struts, and 'just' replace the original springs! But I have no idea about the capacity, length, and diameter of these bags. One thing is clear, you will need verry verry strong airbags, because of the translation from the suspensionarm to the suspensionrod attachment, so the spings have to carry 8 times more weight then if the springs were directly mounted over the wheel. so actually you have to calculate with a car of approx. 4800 kg !!!!!! I think the airbags will be so incedibly big that it will be nearly impossible to mount them, even with acadiane/ami suspensionpots, but i will have to get some information at a company that supplies air ride systems.
I hope I've explained it clear enough for everyone to understand!

Real Lowriders have Hydraulics...
the best way to get a "lowrider" up and down 2cv is to copy the M35 chassis setup...
A GSA costs 250 euros, and you can drive it home at that price...
and with that you have everything to do it... (even a 4cyl engine... )
It's work, but it is guaranteed to work, if done properly...
Rather than spending 1500 + dollars on airbags... and in the end... _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

If you can hide the airbags in the suspentionpots, it's kind of legal, nobody will know or see from the outside! (and wonder about how you change the height so fast if they see you drive by in lowest mode and a couple of minutes later in high mode )

I doupt that you will ever find so small backs that they fit on original
suspension boxes. Maybe there can be idea to make totally different setup
whit bags than normal 2cv suspension. In finland its nowadays bossible to
legalize hydro or air suspensions. We have been thinking to make copy of
M35 suspensions in Fin, but its so freaking much of manufacturing parts out
of nothing.
I would make money for air suspension instead of making super complicated
hydro supension, I already have nightmares of "green marks" under my 2cv
"lowrider"
