Cool !

But I don't understand what happened by tatra's engineers. As you can see on these two pictures, in the mid thirties they were producing cars that were low and already top-chopped ! They were really in the move at that time ! ! !
The first picture is from 1934 ! Incredible ! And please have a look at the hub caps !

Yes it is really impressive. But I don't know how many of these T77 they've built. I don't think they've done that much !

Hey Bart, I moved the topic about your great Tatra in the "general section".
We'd like keep only 2CV and all A series in the "your ride and you section".

Others SNAILER are really welcome if they want talk about their other cars, even (or mainly) if they are not Citroën! Very Happy

These early Tatra 77s are incredible indeed. The designer Hans Ledwinka was friends with Ferdinand Porsche and they discussed the design often. You can see the influences of the Tatra design in the KDF wagen (later the VW Beetle) in the mechanics, as well as the styling. See this prototype Tatra for example, it could be the brother of the early KDF wagens.

Only 95 of the T77's have been produced, before a restyling was done into type 77a (of which only 154 were produced).

They are truly amazing cars and a tribute to Czech styling and design. The Czechs have actually been at the forefront of design and engineering until the Russians took over. Tatra was only supposed to build trucks from then on.

Fortunately, there was a Czech minister who liked Tatra's and persuaded the politbureau to allow Tatra to build a big passenger car for promotional purposes. This became the 603. Hans Ledwinka was no longer with the company (he was in prison after WW2 for collaboration). So the design was by a mr. Mackerle. He used styling cues from the Ledwinka-tatra's but also incorporated styling from American cars. Hudson springs to mind. Or Chevy 1949 fleetline.

For a lot of cool pictures of prototypes and contemporary cars, check

In those days streamlining a cars was a good way to get more top speed, and top speed was selling cars in those days. Unfortuantelly cooling problems were also available and stability problems, but great looking cars Wow. To bad russians took over.
