I drove it on friday for the first time. Buttocks clenched, as with any test drive. Brakes seem to be OK. It sprayed a lot of oil out from the crank breather though. Turned out to have way too much oil in it.

So I drained some out and it was thin as water and smelling of petrol. I have to find out how the petrol got in the oil. Maybe from trying to start a lot of times and not firing, unburned petrol leaks by the pistonrings into the oilpan. Maybe the float in one of the carburettors stays open and squirts petrol all the time into one of the cilinders.

Also, the batteries are not being charged. Probably some bad connection somewhere. There's a lot still to be done, for sure.

A T77a would make the perfect leadsled. Unfortunately, they are kinda rare and expensive.

there's million ideas how to make it! put hood get off whit some clips, put
it open on side, put it open on rear, put it open first up then front, split it
and make it open on bolth sides..
just some engineering and free imagination.. Very Happy

The destination of this project is slowly emerging from the mist.

The style that you did Olli, is about what I had in mind. Like early fifties Barris style mercs. With the small rear window and flowing rear fenders with tunneled 59 caddy tail lights. I am thinking of Packard clipper rear lights as well, or maybe early 50s chevy. I will probably not change the rear windows, cause I like the shape a lot. Do you think Bill Mitchell stole the idea for his Corvette Sting ray?

The original design of the Tatra 603 is from 1954 and they were following American styling trends with a delay of about 2-3 years. So we are period-correct in styling. The original design drawing looks like a Jetsons vehicle.



There are a few early prototype features I would like to make on my car, like fenderskirts in the rear and smaller taillights. Here you see also side trim in a lower line between the front and rear bumpers. Other differences are smaller rear windows and smaller airscoops on the rear fender. Also, no quarterlight on the front door glass gives it a cleaner look.

I really like the old type 603 rear bumpers, like in your photoshop. I like the way the old type rear bumper goes around the corner and continues a long way on the side. If I can find one, I will fit it. In any case I will shave the overriders and reflectors (urghh) from my own bumpers and smooth them out.

I do like the last nose best. I think setting the headlights further back and a little higher would give a mean look, as well as putting some horizontal grille bars between the headlights, instead of the closed bit now. You can see on the corners of the front bumper holes for fitting embassy flags. That would be cool to have some CCCP flags.



I already found a period spotlight to fit to the a pillar. It is in the same rotten state as the chrome on my car.

As for the color, two-tone looks very good on this car.



I would just do the roof in a deep red metalflake though, and leave the rest of the car as is. It's no shame to show it had almost 40 years hard labour in a communist country. Twisted Evil Maybe some pinstripe here and there.

Slamming it down on the street would not be a problem as the underside is flat as a beetle's and the wheel wells are really deep. Plenty of room to lower the whole thing 10 cms. It has really long stiff springs with 14 windings so I could just cut one or two windings off.

I am dreaming of a top chop but it is a little out of my league, as I have little metalshape experience and even less tools for it. Therfore, I will probably leave that for now but for a chop effect, shave the raindrips above the side windows and remove the trim under the side windows.
