I just picked up this Belgian built bicycle! It's all original and even has the original Belgian tyres! I still can't believe it ...

Is this from the ~1950ties (saddle, generator, front light) or ~1960ties (Gear lever, handle bars)?

» Aluminium mud guards? Very luxury!
» Aluminium rims? Also very very luxury I guess.
» ETRO 635 oder 622 rims? Have never seen non Westwood profiled rims with 635. I searched for years (now I swapped to 622 with 50mm tyres)
» Is the carrier part of the frame (welded/soldered)?

We have also a 'holy' but more modern Christopherus ring, was mounted on a ladies bike. :)

Hello Horst,

My Splendor is from 1952, I've been able to date it thanks to the marked Sturmey Archer (AW) rear hub. Indeed, both mudguards and wheels are alloy! I'm not too sure about that ETRO thingy, but I'll do some research about that tomorrow! Wink

The carrier is part of the frame which, I think, looks very nice on this bicycle.

I've taken it apart completely to be able to clean every part. All the parts (including paint) are almost in new condition, unfortunately the chrome is very poor quality. I'm having some parts rechromed at the moment, but I have to wait 5 to 6 weeks. Sad

But it's well worth the waiting, this way I can really enjoy it to the fullest this summer! Wink

My brother and I just picked up this Royal Expres last week. It's already in pieces, hehe. Wink

Torpedo and crank dated '47'. The paint on the frame is in surprisingly good condition, but the wheels will be sandblasted, respoked and repainted. The carrier and mudguards will also be sandblasted and repainted. Rear light is not original.

Here is my lowrider... Cost me nothing just built up from free parts! Rust was done by painting RedBull on the frame!

@Alloy:
wow - in Austria were alloy parts very rare some years after WWII! I guess in Belgium too --> must be a very expensive and rare bike.

@ETRO:
635 tyres are also know as 28 x 1 1/2 (fraction), IIRC 622 tyres were labeld with 'dot' like 28x1.5. There was also the French dimensions which I never understood.

@Chrom:
Yes I saw that most parts are in very good condition - and after rechroming the partial rusty parts you're going to get a very very beautiful bicycle.

@Royal Expres & Victoria:
Do you collect many bicyles ore just getting addicted? :)
Are you kidding? The Victoria isn't great. It was in poorer condition than your Royal, but I kept last parts of color original. Repainting would be very expensive (pittings of rust). This Victoria isn't collectable but I 'needed' an old black bike for a race so I restored it. Most of the time it parks and is annoying because we have no free space to storage it. As you can see the collegues used slightly more modern bikes. :)

I have been collecting some "really old" bicycle junk, for next projects.
These treasures are fron 10's -30's.

One of the first coaster brake hubs, New Departure Model A

Following model of New Departure - Racer.

Crank which have been digged up from Swamp.
After some hours of work, I got all srews open, even the bearing are quite good!!

Another old crank, I got. Better condition but look more modern, but still
made for old "long" chains.

One HUGE front sproket:

These old stuff is so nicely made, just cannot be liking them.

First project where I'm planing to use these is imaginary 20's-30's racing bicyle
whit old parts + custom made frame (whit fake patina, to fit it on old parts).
